Kearney resident, 93
KEARNEY - Roxana ""Roxie"" (Marshall) Lind, 93, of Kearney, formerly of Funk and Holdrege, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at Mother Hull Nursing Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Fridhem Lutheran Church in Funk with the Rev. Bill Waterman officiating. Burial will be at Fridhem Cemetery in Funk.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege is in charge of arrangements.
She was born July 26, 1916, on the family farm in Williamsburg Township in Phelps County to Oliver and Cassie (Kedey) Marshall.
On Oct. 2, 1938, she married Carl Lind. He died Oct. 20, 2004.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Fox and her husband, Jerald, of Kearney; grandchildren, Carl McKinney and his wife, Renee, of Gilbert, Ariz., Robyn Houston and her husband, James, of Redlands, Calif., Gregory Fox of Kearney and Javier Fox of Kansas City, Kan.; three great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Marshall of Kearney; eight nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was baptized at Williamsburg United Methodist Church and was later confirmed at Fridhem Lutheran Church.
She received her primary education at District 76 and then attended Holdrege High School, where she graduated with the class of 1933. After her education, she worked as a salesperson in Holdrege at J.M. McDonald's and Montgomery Ward until her marriage.
As a farm wife, Roxie managed the household and family finances and cooked many meals for harvesting crews. After a devastating hailstorm that destroyed the couple's corn crop in 1967, she took a job sewing draperies for The Decorating Shop in Holdrege.
When the couple retired from farming in 1979, they moved to Holdrege, where Roxie volunteered at the Hospital Service League, Bloodmobile and Meals-on-Wheels. She spent many hours sewing quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. Her hobbies were growing flowers and sewing.
She was an active member of Fridhem Lutheran Church until she moved to Kearney in 2005. She will be remembered for her strength of faith, her caring nature and devotion to family.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie; sisters, Inez Marshall, Harriet Dahlstet and Roberta Lundstrom; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Marshall.
A memorial has been established and will be designated later.
