Steven Mizell, 69, of Kearney passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025, at his home in Kearney.

Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2025, at O'Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Steven L. Mizell was born January 6, 1956, in Denver, Colo. Shortly after, he and his family relocated to Chappell, Neb., where he was raised by his parents, Bessie (Bennet) and Roger Mizell. Steve attended Chappell Elementary School and graduated from Kearney High School, class of 1974. He got his early training working alongside his father in the Mizell machine shop in Kearney, developing life skills and his love for precision equipment. He served in the U.S. Air Force, where he received an honorable discharge. He began his civilian life in California and worked as a machinist.

Steve was a robust, bigger-than-life individual. He had an appreciation for firearms, machinery, electronics, and collecting antiques. He also loved to tinker in his shop while listening to rock and roll, sharing stories from his past, and passing on his knowledge of fixing things to others, especially his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janelle Mizell; children, Julie Mizell, Sandra Wright, Roxanne Wright, and Jonathon (Kerrilyn) Wright; grandchildren, Jordan Mizell, Kael Wright, Anthony Wright-Morabito, Jermaine Robinson, Ryker Wright, Imani Robinson, and Maverick Wright; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Dennis (Mary) Jenson, Kenneth (Sherry) Jenson, Marcy Speake, Sherry (Kenneth) Jenson; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brittany Wright; and brother, Gary Lamm.
