Grace Groen Obituary
Grace was born April 26, 1920 to Simon K. and Minnie (DeVries) Menning in Douglas County, SD. She grew up on the farm and attended country school through the 8th grade near there. She was united in marriage to Lyle V. Groen on August 12, 1941. The couple raised their 5 children, Doris, Betty, Jane, Lois and Dick, and made their home on the farm until 1980 when they retired and moved into Corsica, SD. Grace loved to cook and bake and made and decorated many wedding cakes. She was a member of the Choteau Creek Extension Club and Missionary Circle of the Reformed Church. She was also an avid quilter and seamstress.
Grateful for having shared he life are her 4 children: Betty (Tom) Strehlow of Mitchell; Jane (Ronald) Gerlach of Stickney, SD; Lois (Duane) Lubbers of Chanhassen, MN; and Dick (Pam) Groen of Mitchell; a sister, Lucille (Peter) Noteboom of Corsica; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; a daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Andrew Spaans; a great-grandchild; 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
