Janet Schor Obituary

Janet E. Schor
Born: January 6, 1934
Died: September 9, 2025
Janet E. Schor, 91, of Oswego, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Fox Knoll Village in Aurora, IL.
She was born January 6, 1934, at home in Kaneville, IL, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Hansen) Annis. Janet was employed at Mooseheart where she worked in the office for 10 years. She met the love of her life, Merrill "Bud" Schor, at Long's Barn in Kaneville, where weekend dances were held for 24 years from 1932 until 1956. Many people went there to meet friends and neighbors. Through the years, she came to know many other married couples who had also met their husbands or wives at Long's Barn.
Janet and Bud were married on December 31, 1955, in Crown Point, Indiana and remained husband and wife for 55 years until his passing. December 31st was not only the day they were married, but also Bud's birthday and, of course, New Year's Eve. Shortly after their marriage, they built a lovely home together in Oswego where they raised two beautiful children. Janet had a deep love for animals ever since she was a child, and had a pet squirrel named Rusty and a cat named Timmy that her and her sister would dress up in doll clothes, and the cat actually enjoyed it!
After starting a life in Oswego, she had countless pets, both cats and dogs, most just unclaimed strays that came along and stayed. She was an avid bird watcher and had a life list of over 100 species of birds she had seen with other avid bird watchers while on outings in the local natural areas. She had a birds' eye view of the Fox River from the front of their home, and seeing eagles was a huge highlight. She always kept her multiple bird feeders filled with a variety of seeds at all times. One season she went through 18 jars of grape jelly to feed the Baltimore orioles, suet for the woodpeckers, thistle for the goldfinches, and sunflower seeds for all the rest to enjoy! Janet also loved gardening. She has tiger lily plants that were brought here from her childhood home, and continue to thrive today and are shared by many.
Janet volunteered at Fox Valley Animal Welfare in Aurora and Kendall County Animal Control in Yorkville. She was a lifelong Cubs fan and was fortunate to see them win the World Series in 2016. It was a sad day for her when WGN TV stopped airing the games in 2019. She donated over 7 gallons of blood at the blood bank and was given a wall plaque to prove it. She also collected donations for Donut Day outside local stores for The Salvation Army.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Valerie (John Jr.) Faupl and her son, Eric Schor; a sister, Shirley (late Charles) Schramer and several nieces and nephews including Cynthia (late Gary) Annis, Mary Jo Larson, Stacy (Scott) Trumbull and Kevin (Mary) Schramer.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Merrill "Bud" Schor, who passed in 2011; her parents and three brothers, Burnell "Bus" (Marge) Annis, Royal "Brownie" Annis and Emmitt Annis (who passed at the young age of 5 years old); and sisters-in-law, Ruth Fluster and Chermae Bliss.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Fox Knoll Village and Vitas Hospice caregivers for all their care. To honor Janet's wishes there will be no services held. A private interment of cremains will take place at a later date at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora. Arrangements were entrusted to Dieterle Memorial Home in Montgomery, IL 60538.
Donations to the Fox Valley Animal Welfare, https://www.fvawl.org/supporet, the Kendall County Animal Control, https://magic.collectorsolutions.com/magic-ui/en-US/Pay/Process/CartInformation, or a charity of your choice in Janet's honor would be greatly appreciated.
