Paul Mott Obituary

Paul D. Mott
Born: July 20, 1946 in Joliet, IL
Died: January 25, 2024 in Joliet, IL

Paul Mott passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday, 1/25/2024 at his home in Joliet with his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Maryjo (Verchimak) Mott, at his side. Paul was born in Joliet on July 20, 1946, the son of Ken and Jean Mott. He grew up in Joliet and graduated with the class of 1964 from Joliet Township High School. He later attended and graduated from the University of Iowa with a membership in the Phi-Beta-Kappa Society. There he earned both a bachelor's degree and a masters degree. Paul started his career in hospital administration working as Assistant Personnel Director and Personnel Director at hospitals in Kankakee and Danville. He later transitioned into printing sales with his father at Printing Craftsmen of Joliet. He concluded his working career by substitute teaching at Joliet Central, often taking over classes for his wife. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Stacey (Gerry) McNamee and Ryan Mott. After retirement Paul and Maryjo enjoyed many getaways to the Wisconsin Dells. They also spent several years visiting Panama City Beach, Florida. Renting condos for two months at a time was fantastic, and those "Spring Breakers" were a "joy to behold." Paul also spent many happy vacations with his family fishing in Wisconsin and Canada. He seldom missed watching a Cubs or Bears game even though the outcome didn't always make him happy. His mother-in-law Betty Verchimak, said she never heard him swear except during a Cubs game (and she was right).
In his free time he enjoyed studying the Bible which helped make him a wonderful leader of the Adult Sunday School Classes at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Yorkville.
Paul and his family would like to extend a special thanks to his help form Lightways- his nurse Alicia, his CNA, Tina, and his massage therapist, Laura. You all helped to make his life calm and peaceful.
Paul is survived by his wife, Maryjo, their two children, Stacey(Gerry) McNamee, and Ryan, his great grandson, Austin Ali McNamee, his Brothers-in-law, Andy(Bud) Verchimak and Jeff Verchimak, his brother Reed(Sue) Mott, his Aunt Bev Nofftz, his Aunt Sharlene Verchimak, and his Aunt Marie Larson. Many wonderful nieces and nephews also survive. He'll also miss his close friends, Paul and Kathy Thomason, John and Mona Wilson, and his many friends at Immanuel.
Waiting to welcome Paul in heaven are his parents, Ken and Jean Mott, his in-laws, Andy and Betty Verchimak, his niece Julie Mott, a favorite uncle, the sausage-making, harmonica playing and polka dancing, Lou Verchimak, Uncle Frank and Aunt Elsie Paul, Uncle Dick Nofftz, and Uncle Gord Larson, and Uncle Carl(Doris) Mott. In addition waiting to greet him are his Sister-in law, Diane(Bill) DeSalvo, and his God-Daughter Jenny O'Reilly. Also anxiously waiting his arrival will be his best friend, and college roommate, Reverend Lynn Groe.
Visitation will be from 12-1pm preceding Funeral Services at 1pm on Tuesday January 30th at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Yorkville, IL 10104, Immanuel Road, Yorkville (630-553-5368). As it was Paul's request he will be cremated and laid to rest at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery on Immanuel Road. In lieu of flowers, any memorials in Paul's name may be made out to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lightways Hospice, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I am so grateful that he has been in my life. I remember the day I met mom and dad and I was amazed then as I was through out the years the love that he had for his wife and his daughter. The care he took to make she that his daughter was settled in her dorm room before they left for the start of the school year was something that was great to see and feel. I loved the that he had, the day that he walked me down the aisle on my wedding day, I think of every year that my anniversary comes around 26 years later, but it feels like yesterday. Thank you for being there for my on the one day that I needed a dad.... love you dad, forever in my heart.

Paul was a great high school friend. Great leader, class president, Key Club member, golfer, personality, etc. In probably November, 1963, We visited a church service with the Key Club and when he drove me home he encouraged me to date his prior girl friend, Sue Sharp, who I did not know at the time.our first date was on February 21st, 1964 and
Sue and I were married in 1968. I and my family are eternally thankful to the LORD for having had Paul in my life.
