Scott Hamling Obituary

Scott Hamling
Born: February 7, 1956
Died: February 23, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Scott James Hamling, aged 68, of Montgomery, IL. He was born on February 7, 1956 in Aurora, IL the son of Robert and Mollie (Dunn) Hamling.
Scott was united in marriage to Debra White and they spent 45 wonderful years together. He was the Owner and Operator of Hamling Plumbing and also formerly employed by Valley Fire Protection. Scott bravely battled liposarcoma cancer, demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience until the very end. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, after complications from his illness.
Scott had a knack for bringing joy into every room he entered. His sharp wit, sarcastic humor, and quick comebacks never failed to bring smiles and laughter from those around him. Beyond his quick wit, Scott was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa, whose love knew no bounds. He cherished every moment spent with his family, finding joy in simple pleasures and treasuring the laughter-filled gatherings they shared.
One of Scott's greatest passions was cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines of their sporting events. He was their biggest fan, a familiar face to all team parents, and a pillar of support for the young athletes. Whether rain or shine, Scott could always be found enthusiastically cheering on the sidelines, his love and pride shining brightly for all to see.
Scott leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will be forever treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing him. While we mourn his loss deeply, we take comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace, free from pain and suffering.
Scott is survived by his wife, Debra Hamling of Montgomery, IL; his children, Lauren (Paul) Middleton of Yorkville, IL, Sarah (David) Roberts of Easley, S.C., and Scott (Steven) Hamling of Montgomery, IL; his grandchildren, Emma and Owen Middleton, Kyle, Ella and Evan Roberts; his brother, Rob Hamling of Aurora, IL; and his father-in-law, Donald White of Big Rock, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mollie Hamling; his brother, John Hamling, also his mother-in-law, Jean White.
Scott will be forever remembered and missed by all who knew him, including many cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
A Time to Remember Scott will take place at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1617 North Bridge Street, Yorkville, IL.
Friends may visit from 12:00 PM until the Hour of Remembrance on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Funeral Home in Yorkville, IL.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Scotts passing!
I worked with Scott many times here at Fermilab repairing underground water line breaks and we spent hours together at the bottom of excavations in all types of temperatures extremes. No matter how cold, wet and miserable we were, Scott always insisted on staying until the repair was done to his satisfaction often times telling me, "Well Greg, that's why we make the big bucks!", after which we'd share a good laugh.
When we built a new home near PawPaw, Scott and Rob helped me layout the plumbing and Scott returned to help me properly plumb in a multi-head Shower. When I tried to pay him, he refused and told me he just wanted to help me get the job done.
More recently, after Scott lost part of his little finger, when I'd see him, he'd say, "Give me 4 and 1/2", we'd High Five and laugh.
I'll always remember Scott's graciousness, professionalism and wry sense of humor.
Rest in Peace Scott, you've earned it.
