Gerald Mars Obituary

Gerald Patrick "Jerry" Mars

1947 - 2019

Jerry Mars, 72, passed away Feb. 22, 2019, in San Clemente, Calf. Jerry was the son of the late Louis and Mary (Rutkowski) Mars.

Jerry was born and raised in Kenosha and attended St. James, St. Joseph's High School and the University of Notre Dame where he was in the Glee Club for four years. During those years he came to the conclusion that he was indeed an Irishman at heart and St. Patrick's Day became one of his favorite holidays, but Christmas still topped his list.

He moved to San Clemente, Calf. and never looked back. Jerry loved the ocean, the beach, the beautiful sunsets and lighthouses (an enormous collection). He also loved seafood crepes, lemon bars, cheesecake and last but not least, Mars Bars, sounds like a party.

That being said he still loved coming back to Kenosha to see family and to indulge in the best pizza ever, no matter where you live.

He is survived by brothers, Donald, William (Linda), Robert (Marilyn), sister MaryLou (Mars) Pulera, nieces, nephews and lifelong friend, Lorraine (Russo) Gregersen, who all loved him deeply.

We feel great sorrow at his loss but our precious memories will live in our hearts. He will not be forgotten. Jerry loved his family and took extreme pride in everything they did.

Jerry Mars, we are all going to miss you so. I can hear your wonderful laugh and outrageous sense of humor that always lifted me up. Going through Saint Joseph High School without you would never have been anywhere as fun and memorable. I looked for your face every day!!

Our 3 way calls on our birthdays these recent years with Lorraine, you and me have been priceless and I thought they would go on and on. I am so grateful we had those great calls and remember them with comfort and gratitude.

Thank you Jerry for all the laughs and love and incredible talents you expressed in so many ways. I am sure you are up in heaven stirring things up while dancing, singing, and laughing with loved ones around you.

My deepest sympathies to your beloved family, and lifelong friends. I can only imagine you with a smile and laughter. I know you are in an esteemed place in Heaven.

Jerry was a dormitory/floor mate at Notre Dame in 65-66. My future wife-to-be and I attended one of his glee club performances. Jerry introduced me to the music from West Side Story and other music of the stage which he constantly played in his room. Coming as I did from a tiny town in southern Indiana, that was all new to me. I will be attending the ND Class of '69 50th anniversary reunion this month in South Bend and the 2nd floor Stanford Hall alumni will be fondly remembering Jerry. Pat McGovren [email protected]

My deepest sympathies to the Mars family. He was a dear friend in high school and I was fortunate to visit with him when our Moms were both at Brookside and he would come to see her. Rest In Peace Jerry.
