John Finnemore Obituary

John Leo Finnemore

September 13, 1960 - December 24, 2024

John Leo Finnemore, age 64 of Lakewood, CO, passed away on December 24, 2024, after a short, brave battle with cancer. He was born September 13, 1960 in Kenosha, WI, the son of the late Kenneth and Liane (Zavacke) Finnemore. John graduated from Salem Central High School in 1978 and later from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He earned a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering and spent most of his career overseeing the construction of schools and child care facilities throughout the country.

Things that brought John joy were his son Max, riding his Harley, and snowboarding and hiking in the mountains of Colorado.

John is survived by his wife, Kate, and son, Max. He is also survived by his brother Pat (Mary) Finnemore; sister Amy (Mike) Mockert; and five nieces and nephews: David, Anna, Maya, Will and Olivia.

John will lie in rest at Evergreen Memorial Park in Evergreen, CO.

John was always a delight to be with and to work with. I had the great fortune to be hired by him and John Rosen for the construction of several childcare centers, ranging in location from Golden to Colorado Springs, Colorado. Over the few years we worked together, I always found John to be a joyful, witty, savvy conversationalist, and quite knowledgeable about the industry. He was easy to be with, and I chuckle when I think of his sense of humor and the jokes we shared. He had a way of making people feel welcome, appreciated, and at ease. And, he also took great pride and joy in his wife, his son Max, his motorcycle and the Rockies. He was at home in Colorado. It happened that I was able to see John in late August 2024 at the opening of a new childcare facility in a suburb of Minneapolis. It had been nearly 20 years since we last saw each other, but it was as if that time had never passed. That was John’s wayI’ll always remember him for that.
