Nancy Scalzo Obituary

Nancy Marie Scalzo

1929 - 2013

Nancy Marie Scalzo, 83, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Feb. 16, 2013, at Wynwood of Kenosha, assisted living.

She was born July 8, 1929, in Green Bay, Wis., and grew up in Trego, Wis., with her beloved foster parents, Ted and Cliff Petersen.

Her best childhood friend was Ruth and it was Ruths brother, George Pierce that Nancy fell in love with and married on June 22, 1948.

Nancy and George moved to Kenosha shortly after they were married, where they raised their five children until Georges death in 1980. After Georges death, she met James (Jim) Scalzo, whom she married in 1984. She and Jim spent 14 happy years together until he passed on Dec. 21, 1998.

In her early years, Nancy worked part-time at several places while her children were growing up, including the ticket booth at the Keno Drive-in movie theater in Kenosha, Abbott Labs in Illinois and Topps Discount Department Store. Nancy was also a wonderful seamstress and worked independently in this profession. When her kids were all in school, she became a realtor for Century 21 Colleen Realty which she did for many years. After her retirement from real estate, she became a tax preparation person for H & R Block.

Nancy loved life and was always ready with a joke. She liked to dance and play cards and she was an avid reader.

Nancy will be missed by her five children, Karl (Judy) Pierce of Waukesha, Kevin (Barb) Pierce of Kenosha, Keith (Eileen) Pierce of Madison, Gayle (Pamela) Hopwood of Ontario, Canada, and Georgia (Bob) Saemann of Hillsdale, Mich.; along with seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Nancy was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Reschke, her half-sister, Donna Hassler, her foster parents, Ted and Cliff Petersen, and her two wonderful husbands.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

What a wonderful Lady. My sympathy to the family (my childhood friends) and I am sure Nancy and my Mom (Donna Estill) already have a card game started in Heaven and are sharing lots of stories.
