Robert Becker Obituary

Robert H. Becker, D.D.S.

1949 - 2016

Robert H. Becker, D.D.S. unexpectedly passed away while on vacation in South Carolina, April 24, 2016, with his wife of 46 years by his side. Bob was born on Oct. 15, 1949, to William and Bernadette (nee Oberst) Becker and married Faye (nee Marino) Becker on Jan. 31, 1970. He loved every minute spent with their two sons Robert Jr (Fon Wang) and William (Tabbitha Becker), and with the arrival of four grandchildren Dominick (8), Tristan (6), Charles (3) and Leilei (3) that joy was multiplied.

Bob was a graduate of William Horlick High School, received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin where he was a varsity tennis player and sole squash player to represent the University at the 1970 NCAA Squash Tournament. He received his dental degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry in 1975. Upon graduation he volunteered for the US Army where he served three years as a dental surgeon in Germany. He continued to enjoy tennis and squash with a high level of success to include beating the All Army Tennis Champion. Upon his return to the US he practiced as a general dentist for three years before returning to school at Northwestern University for a Periodontal Residency. He never stopped learning, continuing studies with premier implant surgeons and institutes all over the world, which gave him the ability to help thousands of patients. His dedication to his patients was second to none.

But always, the most important thing in his life was his family. He loved to share the things he loved, with his children and grandchildren and had looked forward to many more years to do so with them. His proudest moment in sports was winning the Racine Country Club Invitational Tournament with his son Bill in early 2004. Bob and Faye loved to travel, and over the years, played lots of golf and tennis together. Bob was involved in numerous professional and civic organizations: he served twice as the President of the Racine County Dental Society. Currently, he was President of the Wisconsin State Periodontal Society and a Board member of the Racine County Sports Hall of Fame. Bob was a long time member of the Racine Country Club and served 2 terms as President. Other organizations he served were the American Diabetes Association, United Way, The Prairie School and he was a member of St. Joseph's Parish.

Bob is further survived by his siblings, Mary Ellen (John) Trimberger, Virginia (Robert) Jacko, William (Suzanne) Becker and Daniel (Joyce Campagna) Becker; sister-in-law, Mona Marino; brothers-in-law, Mark (Connie) Marino, Paul Marino and mother-in-law, Carmella Marino, numerous amazing nieces and nephews, all of whom enjoyed Uncle Bob's joie de vivre. His dedicated dental staff and many, many friends were like family to Bob. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Bea and his father-in-law Eugene Marino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Friday, May 6, 2016, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1533 Erie Street, with Reverend Steve Varghese officiating. Visitation with the family will be held at Maresh-Meredith Funeral Home Thursday, May 5, from 4-8 p.m. or you may meet with the family prior to Mass Friday at the church from 10-11 a.m. A private family internment will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations or memorials may be made to: Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, St. Catherine's High School, Racine County Sports Hall of Fame, The Eugene Marino Fund of the Prairie School, or the charity of your choice.

Faye. I searched Bob today to ask if he had the video of our tennis match that was aired on Racine's cable network back in 1980. I have always wanted to see the video. After searching Bob, I found out that he passed away. I had no idea. I loved Bob, he was an inspiration for me to be a better tennis player and a college student. I am so sorry for your loss. I remember playing on your clay court in your back yard. He was such a good player and I never could beat him. If you happen to have the footage our match on the cable network I would love to see it. I don't have many pictures or video of me when I was younger so it would be really nice. Take care and good bless.

I had a horrible fitting denture and went to Dr. Becker. I got a full set of dental implants and was able to eat again. He gave me back my life. Was working on the bottom when he passed. He was a great dentist and person. He always had time for me.

We got to know Dr. Becker 11 years ago when he did my first implant. Between my husband and me, we now have a dozen implants and we are very proud of the beautiful work he did. Not only were his skills at doing implants superb, but he was one of the most amazing, friendly, compassionate people we have ever had the pleasure to know. We are greatly saddened by his tragic loss, but if anybody is in Heaven, he surely is! Our deepest condolences to his family and staff. We will truly miss him.

My sympathy to the family. Bob and I played a lot of tennis and it was always enjoyable. I can remember his "backyard" tennis tournament held every summer before the annual Racine tournament. It was held in his backyard. He was a very good player and a good friend.

Bob and I played many sets of tennis together. He always had respect for the game and his opponents. When we finished playing, we would always talked about Bobby and Billy. Your dad will be missed.

My sympathy to your entire family and the staff of the dental office. I have been a patient of Dr. Becker's for my dental implants and also have never met a nicer and more honest man. As I would speak of my upcoming busy weekend with my teen boys, he would tell me stories with such a sparkle in his eye about his children and their activities during those teen years. He always spoke of how fast time flies and to cherish every single moment with your children because you miss them so much when they leave home. I honestly left the office truly thinking about how blessed I was vs thinking of the major dental work I just had done. Truly an amazing professional.

Faye, Scripture says "He bore our griefs and carried our sorrows". It is comforting to know that we are not alone in our time of sorrow - Jesus is with us. Bob was a wonderful husband, father, professional and a good man. Cherish those memories always and God bless you. Much Love - Rosa Stong

Faye and family,
I was so saddened to hear of Bob's passing. A friend of mine is a patient, and absolutely loved Bob as her Dentist.
Ironically, we have had a home in Bluffton, SC for the past 8 years, 12 miles from Hilton Head. I would love to see you again, it has been way too long. My heart goes out to you and your family. There are few words to comfort you, only that I care so much!

Dr. Becker knew how nervous I get when I sat in his chair. He was so amazing at making me feel so comfortable. He was one of the most compassionate dentist I've ever received treatment from. I also heard all the wonderful stories my sister Letha (his employee) shared. Dr. Becker will not only be remembered for being the best in his field, but for being a wonderful man.

To his family, I say I pray that God will comfort your hearts as you journey through the rest of your lives without someone so dear to you.

God bless each of you!

Faye and Family, I am so grateful to have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Becker. He was so proud of his family and shined when talking about them, especially the grand kids. He made his employees realize they had more ability than they thought they had so that they consistently did better work than they thought they could. He was someone who devoted himself to caring for others, giving to his community around him and creating a life that gave him purpose and meaning. He was a very giving, kind and wonderful man. The community lost a man with profound integrity and he will be greatly missed. Sorry for your loss.
