Robert Heidersdorf Obituary

Robert W. Heidersdorf, Sr.

1926 - 2017

Robert W. Heidersdorf Sr., 90, of Somers passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017, at his home. Bob was born on Dec. 11, 1926, in Somers to Henry and Elsie (Reck) Heidersdorf. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952 and was stationed in Germany. Bob married Elizabeth Jane Bender on Dec. 30, 1950, in Kenosha. He was a farmer and worked on the family farm from the time he was a small boy. He will be remembered by the many people who bought produce at his vegetable stand as "Farmer Bob". Bob raised and sold sweet corn, tomatoes, peppers, beets, pumpkins and squash until 2016. He also worked for many years in Racine at Walker Manufacturing and later as a truck driver for American Motors, Renault and Chrysler until he retired in December of 1988. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0552, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the National Rifle Association. Bob's greatest joys were the time he spent with his family, being outdoors, selling his produce and chatting with his customers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; infant daughter, Margaret; his parents; a brother, Henry Heidersdorf; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy (Clarence) Halldin, Margaret (Wayne) Raffelson and Lillian (Jack) Jacobs and two sisters-in-law, Marge and Marion Heidersdorf.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Barbara DeLaney (Robert Jacobson) of Kenosha; his son, Robert W. Heidersdorf Jr. (Kathie Livesley) of Wasilla, AK,; granddaughter, Kelly (Jim) Lasco of Somers; two great-grandchildren, Jace and Leah Lasco, many nieces, nephews and good friends and his feline companion, Mr. Black.

A visitation for Bob will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Kindred Kitties (614-59th Street) would be greatly appreciated.

The last of the Heiderdorfs. An amazing man and the sad passing of the only true old fashioned family farmer that we knew. It will be a terrible loss to see the old farmstead go. I wish that we had known he was so ill. We will miss Uncle Bob-there will never be another like him.

I am so sorry to learn of the sadness of your loss. I am a cousin living in Tucson Arizona. I remember visiting Bobby and eating out of his garden when I was visiting from Chile. Condolences and deepest sympathy. Peggy (Larson) Bommersbach.
