Ruth Selear Obituary

Ruth Ann Selear

December 29, 1941 - May 25, 2025

Ruth (Schumacher) Selear, 83, of Mesa, AZ passed away on May 25th, 2025. Ruth was born in Neenah, Wisconsin on December 29, 1941. She was raised on a farm where she enjoyed many activities such as ice skating and sports and participated in 4H, where she cared for and showed animals at local fairs and won top prizes for her animals. One of her favorite pets was a goat that would follow her around on the farm. Ruth also studied piano and loved to play the classics. She had 3 loving older brothers; Red, Bruce and Howard, who always made her laugh, which was her favorite thing to do. Ruth attended schools in New London and Appleton, WI before moving to Kenosha, WI in 1962. She married Lawrence (Larry) J Selear in 1965 and they had two sons; Lawrence and Thomas. Ruth worked for Kenosha Unified schools as a secretary for 25 years. She loved and cared for her family and enjoyed attending sporting activities as well as musical and theater performances both locally and regionally. Ruth played softball and other sports and cherished her time laughing and talking with her friends and family. Shortly after retiring, Ruth and Larry moved to Arizona where she studied piano and painting. While in AZ Ruth and Larry made many great friends and enjoyed happy occasions with people from WI and other places, including Canada. Ruth was a loving Mother, wife and sister who was adored by all who knew her for her good nature and sincerity. Ruth battled cancer on and off for 30 years but was strong in her conviction that the illness wouldn't define her life. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and Dewey Schumacher and her brothers Red (Mary) and Bruce (Kay) Schumacher. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence J Selear, sons Larry (Tanja) Selear, Tom Selear (Amy Franks), granddaughter Jessica Zimmerman, great granddaughters, Chiara and Thalia, her brother Howard (Linda) Schumacher as well as several nieces and nephews.
