Alta Marshall

1957 - 2016

MARSHALL Alta Simpson. The lovely, beautiful, and vivacious Alta Simpson Marshall passed peacefully from this life to the next on the evening of April 3rd. Alta was a kind, caring, and generous soul who established her priorities early in life. Her greatest accomplishment was being the wonderful, caring, and considerate mother of her three children, Seth Adam Marshall, Jane Ashley Marshall, and Elizabeth McKenzie Marshall. She was also a doting and loving grandmother to Aiden and Ainsley. Alta treasured her relationships with her children and grandchildren and was always there with the proper measure of love, devotion, understanding, and guidance. She will be greatly missed but always loved and remembered by her children; her grandchildren; her sister, Sue Simpson Mims; her brother, Rob Simpson; and, her sister-in-law, Virginia Simpson. She will be especially missed and always loved and adored by David who had the privilege of being her companion and partner for most of her life. Alta was a friend to many and a stranger to none. She was quick with a smile, a laugh, and to assist or accommodate. She never avoided a good time, and good times certainly never avoided her. Her keen wit, sense of humor, and tendency to mischievousness were well known. Those friends she made in life, including those in Nicholasville, Nashville, Lexington, and Naples, Florida gave her great satisfaction, pleasure, joy, and solace. Surely if there is a fashion clothing store and wine shop in Heaven, Alta and Mel are together now sipping and shopping. Those who survive Alta are comforted to know that she has been taken into the eternal embrace of her Lord and Savior. We are also mindful that she has been reunited with her mother, Jane; her father, Flournoy; and, her brothers, Taylor and Garry, all who preceded her in death. Many thanks are given for the gentle and tender care provided to Alta by the skilled doctors and staff at the Sarah Cannon Research Institute in Nashville, Tennessee, and at the Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. Special thanks are given to the staff of Hospice of the Bluegrass whose care and treatment of Alta during her final days were truly above and beyond. Alta was dearly loved by all, and she will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind. Her surviving family members and friends will forever be mindful of her grace, beauty, class, and elegance. While the light of Alta's life has flickered out, we all can, and will, remember how brightly it burned, and the great sense of warmth it gave us. A celebration of Alta and her life will be held by her friends and her family in the Chapel of the Milward Funeral Directors located at 159 North Broadway in Lexington, Kentucky on Thursday, April 7th from 4pm until 8pm. A service of memory will be convened Friday morning at Milward-Broadway beginning at 11:30am, and will be officiated by Dr. Reva Tackett followed by Alta's internment at the Lexington Cemetery. www.milwardfuneral.com
