Andrew Stephens Obituary

Andrew Martin Stephens
July 3, 1956 - March 12, 2021
Lexington , Kentucky - Andrew Martin Stephens passed on Friday, March 12, 2021, surrounded by loved ones in his home in Jessamine County, KY. Born July 3, 1956, Andy graduated from The Lexington School, Episcopal High School, Rollins College and Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He has practiced law in his home town and state since 1981. He is preceded in death by his father, Hon. Robert F. Stephens, his mother June (Sandusky) Stephens, and brother Michael D. Stephens. Surviving family includes his children, Andrew M. Stephens II and Madelyne Grace Stephens, his sister, Nancy (Stephens) Blevins, his brother Robert F. Stephens III as well as his beloved, Jackie L. Horn and her children, Andrew Holt, Allison Holt and Ashton Holt. Andy was a member of many communities, large and small. His family community was large, loud and usually laughing. His legal community was boundless, with so many colleagues, friends and adversaries, all tasked with the common goal of upholding our laws. His spiritual community was small, personal and very important to him - never for show and very private. He valued friendships, his legal network, love of travel, and above all, family. To Andy, family wasn't necessarily about blood or ceremony, it was about love and mutual respect. Andy's larger than life personality will leave a hole in many of our hearts, but we are comforted by the love and good that he spread throughout his time on this earth. Visitation will be held at Southland Christian Church – Chapel A, Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. followed immediately by a service with limited seating. COVID requirements include social distancing and masks. A private burial will follow for the family.

I just learned of Andy's passing. Hits me hard. I knew him only professionally, in matters in which we were opposing counsel. But that interaction was always a pleasure - a great sense of humor, we shared many good laughs, and he was so charming. Wish I'd been able to spend some time with him.

I am so shocked to learn of Andy’s passing. What I remember most is that robust sense of humor and his laugh...he inherited that laugh from his father! The world is a little less, with Andy gone. He always gave so much. I hope his immediate, extended and law families takes solace knowing he was much loved, appreciated and valued. One of a kind. I’m honored to have know him.

I am totally at a loss. I didn't even know he was sick. I worked with Andy in the same office for nine years. He was always so very kind to me. I greatly admired him. He was a thoughtful, kind, warm, generous man and I will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family..Jackie, I know he loved you dearly. I am so sorry. Having lost my husband a year ago, I completely understand. I am here if you need me.
