Antonio S. Anzures

ANZURES Antonio S., passed away on Feb 12, 2017 in Lexington, KY from complications related to multiple strokes. He was born on Jan 17, 1927 in Bulacan, Philippines. He is survived by his wife Humildad Tulao Anzures of Lexington, son Edgardo (wife Bernice Smith) of Massachusetts, daughter Regina of Lexington, granddaughter Natalie of Maryland, grandson Brendan of Rhode Island, niece Cecilia (husband Jeffrey Antle) of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews around the world. Antonio graduated from the University of Santo Tomas, College of Medicine and trained at the University of Louisville in internal medicine. He was the medical director and later superintendent of the Frankfort State Hospital and School. Later he joined the University of Kentucky Student Health Service where he retired after 25 years of service. He was passionately involved in the treatment of dermatological diseases. During his tenure at UK, he received the Golden Apple award for outstanding teaching in the School of Medicine. He was president of the Bluegrass Filipino-American Association where he encouraged close ties within membership and promoted an understanding of the Filipino culture with the local community. Throughout his life he enjoyed singing, opera, classical music, gardening and UK basketball. The visitation will be on Fri, Feb 17 from 4pm to 8pm at Milward Man O'War Funeral Home (1509 Trent Blvd., Lexington). The funeral mass is on Saturday, February 18 at 10am at St. Paul Church (501 W. Short St., Lexington). The burial will be at Lexington Cemetery (833 W. Main St., Lexington) after the mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul Church. www.milwardfuneral.com
