Barbara Schriefer Obituary

Barbara Schriefer

September 6, 1942 - August 13, 2025

Versailles, Kentucky - Barbara Sue Schriefer, age 82, wife of Boyd Curtis Schriefer, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 surrounded by her loved ones. Barbara's family was from Owenton, Kentucky, and she was born on September 6, 1942, in Frankfort, to the late James Preston and Thelma Smith Estes. Barbara was a consummate Southern cook who enjoyed her family, reading and digging her toes into a beach. She mastered many careers in her life, including giving over 30 years to the Social Security Administration. She loved going to church, red wine, dark chocolate, nice clothes and cute shoes.

In addition to her husband Boyd, Barbara is survived by her children, Tambra Louise Masterson (Michael), Timothy Preston Wilder, and Christopher Vernon Wilder (Elizabeth Caywood); her children through marriage, Debra Lynn Strehl (Keith), Jeff Curtis Schriefer (Norma Flores), and Johnny Douglas Carmichael (Bethany); her grandchildren, Gabriel Lee Masterson and his fiancé Emmy Henz, Paul Edward Masterson and his wife Erin, Brittany Nicole Wilder and partner Rebecca Polivka, and Evelyn Newell Wilder; her great-grandchildren, Dylan Grace Masterson and Jack Wilder Masterson; and her grandchildren through marriage, Jeffrey Antonio Schriefer-Flores, Regan Kimberly Strehl, Brian Curtis Strehl, and Ash Logan Carmichael; as well as an incredible host of nieces, nephews, and many life-long friends.

A celebration of her life service is planned for Wednesday, August 20th at Crestwood Christian Church on Bellefonte Drive in Lexington, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., with the service at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Clark Funeral Home, Rose Hill, is in charge of arrangements.

I´ve known Barbara since I was in high school. Her brother in law was my high school boyfriend. She worked with my mother at SSA, and rented my grandmother´s house for a few years. Her son Chris and my son, Brad, went to the same babysitter. She was such a special person. My condolences to the family.

I´m so sorry to lose my Best friend of over 50 years. We first met at Social Security in Corbin Ky. We were same age/same birth month & our friendship was sealed to the end.
I´m so sorry for your loss, especially Boyd & Tammy that loved & took such good care of her! She so enjoyed her little Evie. Love to ALL of you.
