Benjamin Mann Obituary

MANN Benjamin Johnson, Jr., 72 husband of Karen Gabriel Mann, passed away Sunday, Oct 23, 2016 at his home. Born June 9, 1944 in Boston, MA, he was a son of the late Benjamin Johnson Mann, Sr. and Dorothy Whitney Mann. Ben served in the U. S. Coast Guard from 1966-70 with two tours of duty in Antarctica with Operation Deep Freeze. He received his B.S. and Master's degrees from the University of KY. Starting his professional career at Cowden Manufacturing, he moved to the insurance industry in late 1980 and along with his partners formed Mann Sutton & McGee Insurance Agency, retiring in 2010. Ben was very active in St. Andrew Orthodox Church where he completed his studies and was ordained a deacon in the Orthodox Church in 1995. He served the church in a multitude of ways by teaching, mentoring, ground maintenance, and liturgical duties. His poor health recently prohibited him from serving the church as he would have wanted and his lifetime hunger for knowledge found him always with a book open. Besides his wife, survivors include a son, Sean Mann; a daughter, Nicole Mann (Joseph) Highland; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Sylvey Highland who loved coin collecting with their grandfather; and two sisters, Sheila Mann and Isabelle Sherer. Funeral services will be 10am Wednesday, Oct 26, 2016 at St. Andrew Orthodox Church by the Rev. Thomas Gallaway with burial to follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7:30pm Tuesday at the church with prayers at 7:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908, or St. Andrew Orthodox Church, 1136 Higbee Mill Rd., Lexington, KY 40503. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. in charge of arrangements.

Praying for you, darling Karen, at the loss of your beloved Ben. Just learned of his Hospice care when we got home from our Florida vacation the other day. Please know that he was so loved - not only by the faithful of St. Andrew's, but all of us who were graced with his many blessings at St. Michael's in Louisville. May his memory be eternal, and may God comfort and bless you and your family at this sorrowful time. Sending you ALL of my love!!

Sandie and I regret learning of Ben's passing and we are sorry that we were unable to make the trip to Lexington for the services today. I will be eternally grateful for the services Ben Mann provided in Jackson KY for my brother Bill in 2013 at the Sewell Cemetery. Rest In Peace peace my dear friend. Love, Cousin Ben C. Sewell III

Karen and Family,
May you find peace at this difficult time. I share in your sorrow and send you caring thoughts.
My memories of Ben are of a young boy in Salyersville. He was intelligent, talented and ambitious. He was a neighbor and classmate-but most of all Benny was my friend. It has saddened me to learn of his death.
You are in my prayers...
