Charles Jubeck Obituary

Charles Andrew "Wick" Jubeck, 87, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away on December 12, 2025. Born in 1938 in Republic, near Brownsville, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Peter "Duck" Jubeck and Anna Mae "Spark" Jubeck.

Wick grew up in a western Pennsylvania coal town and was a standout athlete, playing linebacker on his high school football team. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in July 1956 and served honorably until July 1958, where he distinguished himself as a pistol instructor. Following his military service, he continued his love of athletics, including playing football in Youngstown, Ohio.

In the early 1960s, Wick followed his brother Pete to Muncie, Indiana, entering the pizza business. While working at Pizza King, he met Joyce "Kelly" Clarke, the mother of his three sons-Jeff, Kirk, and Nathan. In 1968, he brought Sir Pizza to Columbus, Ohio, and later to Lexington, Kentucky, becoming a well-known and successful restaurateur.

In 1974, Wick met the love of his life, Sue, whom he married and adored for 51 years, always referring to her affectionately as "his lady." After selling Sir Pizza in Lexington, he moved to Michigan in 1988 to join his brothers in expanding Sir Pizza of Michigan. There, he became locally famous as the "most interesting man in Lansing" through his stylish and memorable television commercials.

Wick retired from the pizza business in 2017 and returned to Lexington in February 2020, where he spent his final years.

A man of boundless energy and warmth, Wick lit up every room he entered. He was an avid sports fan and athlete, enjoying golf, snow skiing, football, and basketball. He worked out regularly and, in earlier years, was runner-up in the Lexington Athletic Club C Division racquetball tournament in 1987. He enjoyed a good glass of wine and lived life fully and vibrantly.

Above all, Wick was a devoted family man. He was endlessly supportive of his children, always lending a helping hand and reminding them how proud he was. He adored his grandchildren, Andrew and Ben, who knew him as "Pappa." He never ended a phone call without saying, "I love you," to which they would reply, "I love you most."

Wick was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Peter and Tom and sister Marcie; and his son Jeffrey Jubeck;.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Jubeck; his sons Kirk and Nathan; his stepchildren Michael and Carol; his grandchildren Andrew and Ben Jubeck; his brother Barry; and his daughters-in-law Laura and Ti, along with many extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 3-5 p.m. at Care Cremation Services, 1304 Bryan Ave. Lexington, KY 40505.
