Roy Alcorn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road on Mar. 29, 2026.
Roy Glenn Alcorn, 86, passed peacefully on March 26, 2026 at his home in Sayre Christian Village in Lexington, Kentucky. He was the husband of the late Beverly Ann Alcorn (Gander). They shared over 50 years together.

Roy was born in High Bridge, Kentucky on June 22, 1939 to Walter and Ruth Alcorn. As a young child, he and his family moved to Danville, Kentucky, where he graduated Danville high school in 1958. From there, he attended the University of Kentucky, then joined the U.S. Navy. He was a proud Submariner who completed electronics and nuclear power training before starting his sea duties. He had wonderful stories about his Navy travels to Scotland, Spain, Italy, and the secret surveillance of a Russian harbor.

His military career led him to a very successful career as an electronics technician, where he specialized in X-ray and other biomedical equipment for the University of Kentucky Hospital and the Veterans Administration in Lexington.

Roy enjoyed the outdoors, family, friends, and the occasional canine companion. He enjoyed hiking and exploring in the Daniel Boone National Forest and on his undeveloped land in Jessamine County. He, like his father, was a jack-of-all trades and could repair or make just about anything one could imagine.

He is survived by his three sons, David (Michelle), Michael (Laura), and Brian (Stacy) Alcorn, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his extended caring family and friends in Kentucky and beyond. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly, whom he loved and missed dearly.

A short visitation will take place on March 31, 2026, between 9:00-10:00 AM at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd. The immediate family will have a private grave-side service at the Lancaster Cemetery, Kentucky, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.

Those that wish to further honor Roy may consider a donation to The Alzheimer's Association or an Alzheimer's research organization, to support the efforts to combat the disease that deeply affected his beloved wife, and in turn, him.
