David Baker Obituary

FRANKFORT - David Elliott Baker, 62, passed away Sat, Dec 17, 2011, at his home with family after a courageous four year battle with cancer. A native of Somerset, KY, he was born Dec 10, 1949, to the late Robert E. and Velma Pauline Newell Baker. Dave was a 1967 graduate of Somerset High School, a 1974 graduate of University of Kentucky with a degree in education and later obtained graduate banking degrees from University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA and Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA. Dave began his banking career with First Security Bank working from 1975-1982 and First National Bank, Georgetown, 1982-1995. In 1995, he was employed by Whitaker Bank-Frankfort (formerly State National Bank) as a Vice President and later served as President and Chairman of the Board and was a current member of the board. He was a member of various civic organizations and boards in cities where he worked. Dave was an avid UK football fan and was President of The Wildcat Club, Lexington, 1983-1984. He is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Hartlage Baker; his daughter, Nancy Baker Halloran (Andy); his granddaughter, Claire Elizabeth Halloran; two sisters, Susan Catron (Richard), Kim Stevens (J.R.) and many nieces and nephews. There will be a gathering of family and friends Mon, Dec 19, 2011, from 4pm until 6:30pm at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home, Frankfort followed by a time of remembrance beginning at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601, a local chapter of American Cancer Society or Frankfort Habilitation, 3755 US Highway 127S, Frankfort, KY 40601. Betty & I returned from New Orleans last evening. I just learned of David's death this morning. I often recall the great times Dave and I had at LSU and the weekend in New Orleans.
