Hershel E. "Buck" Dillon

DILLON Hershel E. "Buck", 85, husband of 60 years to LaRue Dekle Dillon, died Mon., Jan. 30, 2006 at Central Baptist Hospital. Born in Appalachia, VA, he was the son of the late Howard E. and Esther Frances Waide Dillon. Mr. Dillon was a WWII Army veteran and was in the U.S. Army Engineers from 1942-1945. He was a retired yardmaster for L & N Railroad where he was employed from 1945-1979. He was a member of Lexington Lodge #1 F&AM, and Buford Lodge #494 F&AM, the Thirty-Nine Club, Marching Patrol, and a former steward for the Oleika Temple. Mr. Dillon was a member of UK Committee of 101. He was a member of Broadway Christian Church since 1947 where he was a greeter and a past president of the Builders Class. Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Linda Dillon Perkins, Georgetown, KY, and Frances Ann Dillon, Woodford County, KY; grandchildren, Miriam Perkins Fernie, Washington, DC, Hannah Perkins Chia, Rockville, MD, Alicia Perkins Katterheinrick, London, KY, Nathan C. Perkins, Odon, IN, and 1st Lt. David N. Perkins, stationed in Ft. Huachaca, AZ and serving in Iraq; and two great grandsons; and a sister, Ruth Dinsmore and two nephews. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Fri. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road. Burial will follow in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4 - 8 pm Thurs. with a Masonic service at 6 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to Shriner's Hospital, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502.
