Phoenix, Arizona - Joel Timothy Adams, 78, passed away on June 26, 2022 in Phoenix, AZ. Tim was born May 13, 1944 in Whitesburg to Hazel and Lee Adams. He was a 1962 graduate of Whitesburg High School, He attended Georgetown College and UK. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He was a Navy veteran of 4 years during the Vietnam War. He was the former owner of The Upstart Crow and Morgan's Cafe, in Lexington. The bulk of his career was spent as a hotel manager in Florida, Arizona, California and Texas. He was a world traveler, having made numerous trips to England, Ireland and Scotland. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Michael Lee Adams. Survivors include his brother, Mark Adams, nephews Micah and Spencer Adams of Florence, nieces Missy (David) Sanders, Tami (Mike) Ross of Lexington and Kara (DR. James) Gilbert of Gainesville, Ga. There will be a private graveside service at Green Acres Cemetery in Whitesburg. The family suggests memorials to the Whitesburg First Baptist Church Flood Relief fund.

My condolences to his family. I worked for Tim at the Upstart Crow for a couple of years when it first opened. He was such a great guy with good sense of of humor, and always so kind to me.

I first met Tim and his brother Mark in 1974, when we lived in an Antique home that had been converted into a number of apartments. It was that summer that Tim along with Mark and Dudley Webb opened the now infamous "Upstart Crow". It quickly became a popular gathering spot for academics, lawyers and virtually all UK fans. Tim inspired both the Crow and Morgans with his unique choice of interior design, and business acumen..In addition to local lawyers, a dean of Architecture and medical staff from UK were welcomed after a long shift...I had the last privilege of seeing Tim in the Spring of 2022, just prior to his death...from his productive professional skills, to his people oriented personality, he always made you feel welcomed and openly entertaining...suffice it to say, Tim always lit up the scene while he was with us...and the glow will persist...
