To Mike's Family,
He was always a gentleman to me, as he spoke to me honestly and treated me fairly. I learned from our conversations and always thought of him with the most respect. I am sorry to hear of his passing as I have thought of him recently and wondered how he was doing. We were competitors in business, and a friend in business.
I will always consider him a mentor, and I wish you and the family business success.

We sat in front of Mike at the UK games in Commonwealth Stadium the last few years. We were always impressed with his knowledge of the game. We were there this year when he attended his last game and he told us that he only had a short time to live, but he knew God had a plan for him and he just wanted to attend a game one more time. We were impressed by Mike's courage and his faith. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family, and we will miss our "football expert" at UK games.

Elaine,
We have been out of town and returned home after the services for Mike. We are so sorry to have missed seeing you during this time. Please know how much we loved and respected Mike for his courageous and inspiring faith as he has been on this difficult journey. Our Friday night encounters at Rafferty's and other places were always such a testimony to his character! We will continue to keep you and your family in our prayers. May God provide an abiding and comforting peace now and for always. Heaven is a better place today!

Dear Elaine and family,
Mike Hellard was a wonderful Christian man and a good son to his Mother Edna. Jeff and I enjoyed the time we spent with you and Mike at the Hackers country club party last December. Mike was so funny and always supportive. As in Timothy, Mike Hellard, "fought a good fight".
May God Bless,
Jeff and Mary Treadway

Jeremy and Justin-
Your dad meant so very much to me, and this loss will leave a huge void for many, many people!
Since the day I first met Mike I felt like we had been friends for a lifetime because of his smiling face and gentle kindness.
I will certainly miss his joking abuse and wonderful smile each time I enter the door of the shop.
My thoughts are with you,
Sonja

Elaine, our prayers are with you and the children. Mike was such a wonderful person who, I know, has given you and the family many fond memories. Cherish them and know that he's where he wants to be, watching over you and waiting until we all meet again. Fully rely on God and he will see you through. Our love to you. Terry & Bert

Well, I will try to make this short, but no promises. I met Mike years ago when he started dating my sister. He was always so outgoing, so happy, cheerful and funny. He nicknamed me "Kangy Moses". I'm really not sure why, or how he came up with that name but I loved it. He would let me drive his gold and black camaro down to the store. I was only 17 then so I thought I was cool driving the big man's car. I really liked Mike. Over the years as we all grew up, I lost track of him untill a few months ago when he had called my dad. I got his e-mail address and he would send me e-mails with jokes and different things almost every week. Until tonight I never knew he grew up a block behind me on Longview Drive. I grew up on Sheridan Drive then moved to Gainesway later. Mike was a great guy, obviously loved by many of us. I hope that someday I can live my life the way he did his. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, his sons, and family.

I was one of Mike's chemo nurses for several years. It was always a pleasure to see his smiling face and hear his many, sometimes hard to believe, stories. It was an honor to have known him. I am deeply sorry for your loss--he'll be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I was so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I have known Mike for many years, he almost seemed like our own son before his marriage. He would come over for dinner at least 3 or 4 times every week, always full of life, happy and he had a way of making his happieness contagious. I know he will be missed dearly by his family and many friends. My prayers are with you all.

Mike was such an inspiration to me. How lucky I am to have crossed paths with Mike. If I had to follow in ones footsteps, I would gladly walk in Mike's. This isn't a goodby, just "See ya on the other side"

Mike and I grew up together on Longview as well. Mike, Nancy, Danny, Barry, and my brother Mike. I wasn't in contact with Mike for many years but during the last three years we talked many times at Mike's business and UK football games. Mike always had a smile, as a child on Longview through a few weeks ago when we last talked. Mike, his brothers and sister, his Mother (Edna) and Father (Dewey) made a lasting impression on my family that helped shape my family's life forever. Mike's positive attitude during his illness didn't surprise me because he's been that way since we were kids. Myrna and I are in California visiting our kids and won't be able to attend services. I wish Mike's family faith and prayers during this time. I will miss Mike very much.

Mike and I grew up together on Longview Drive in Lexington . . . we've been friends for 50 years. I have so many good memories of our school years: joking & giggling through 12 years of classes, walking to Clays Mill together, riding the bus to Leestown & Hamilton Hall, walking to Lafayette Junior & Senior . . . and Mike always had that ready smile that made his blue eyes sparkle. He was such a good friend to me, and always so kind to my parents. We're all going to miss him terribly. I'm grateful that his faith was so strong and that I'll see him again someday soon. I pray that his family can take great comfort in that promise during these sad days. I love you, dear Friend; rest well and peacefully in God's loving arms forever and ever, and meet us at the Gates when God calls us Home.

There is an empty seat at Raffertys, an empty seat at church and an empty place in my heart. But, boy Heaven is a lot happier today. Bobby, Susan, Gary and Mike are having a great time. Can you imagine who is monoplizing the conversation? He said he would wait for me, in side the gate on the left side. What a day that will be. Much love to you Elaine.

Dear Elaine & Family: What a great man. Great in so many ways: husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and most important = a Christian. I am so sorry he is no longer with us on earth, but oh what a celebration he is having with the Lord. Mike was so ready to be with Him and let everyone know his confidence in the Lord. My heart is sadden by his death, but joyful for his eternal life. He will be missed by all. My prayers and thoughts are with you and the family. May God now give you comfort and encouragement. Your friend, Vicki

My prayers and sympathy to all of Mike's familly. He was a fine man and a good friend and I will miss him a lot. We know he is out of pain now and is were he wanted to go. He was an inspiration to all who knew him, the way he fought his battle till the end. He was a friend to Bobby thru his battle also. He will be truly missed.
