Michael Myrlin McCullar

Lexington, Kentucky - Michael Myrlin McCullar, 69, passed away February 17, 2025. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, he was the son of the late Myrlin McCullar and Lillie F. Webb McCullar. Michael was a certified veterinary dental technician for over 40 years. He started learning veterinary dentistry in the early 80's when veterinary dentistry was in its infancy. Michael worked for several years serving the animals of the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, he worked at Walt Disney world for a time with their big animals, and since 2008 had worked closely with the Richmond veterinary Clinic working with thousands of patients over the years. He was even contracted to perform a root canal on a hippo in El Salvador in 1991 and was reported to be one of the first to ever succeed in performing the procedure. Michael also taught dentistry to many veterinarians over the years, and he was instrumental in revolutionizing small animal dentistry in Richmond and other areas of central Kentucky. Michael was a gourmet cook, and he had a passion for working with bonsai trees. He had a great sense of humor and was great company to many family members and friends. He is survived by his sons, Gibson (Kristen) McCullar and Connor McCullar; his daughter, Kendall McCullar; his grandchildren, Hadlee Cole, Eloise McCullar, and Miles Cole; and two sisters, Celeste McAshan Neuman, and Elizabeth McAshan Carbine. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Alexander McAshan. A memorial service in Michael's memory will be held at a later date.
