Michael Scruggs

SCRUGGS Michael Tanner Sr., 57, of Knoxville, TN, passed away peacefully with his wife of 33 years, Jennie Wells Scruggs, by his side on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at The Breckinridge in Lexington, KY. Mike had been suffering from a rare form of dementia, frontal temporal lobe. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Wells Scruggs, and his two sons, Michael Tanner Scruggs Jr. and Duncan Britton Scruggs. He was the son of Patricia Falkner Scruggs and the late William "Pat" Arthur Scruggs of Knoxville, Tn. Mike graduated from Webb School of Knoxville and then received a Business Degree from Transylvania University in 1982. After graduating Mike interned with The House of Seagram Inc. in New York, Miami, and Texas and E & J Gallo Winery in California. He then joined his father at Beverage Control Inc., beginning at the warehouse level and working his way up to Presidency. Mike retired from BCI in 2006. Scruggs' hobbies included traveling the world with his wife and sons, scuba diving, fly fishing, bird hunting with his dog, photography, movies, woodworking, bee keeping, collecting guns and duck calls, connoisseur of wine, water and snow skiing, camping, but his greatest joy was raising his boys. Mike was a member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN, as well as a proud member of Phi Kappa Tau, Ducks Unlimited, Wild Turkey Federation, the TWRA Board, Quail Unlimited, Cotillion Club, Cross of Burgundy, and Appalachian Anglers. Survivors include Elizabeth Scruggs Scinta (David) of Louisville, KY; Jennie Scruggs Johnson (Andy) of Knoxville, TN; and nine nephews and four nieces. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 7, 2017, from 3-6pm at Rose Mortuary in Knoxville, TN, and on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, from 4-6pm at Milward Broadway in Lexington, KY. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017, at Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, KY. We honor our friends at The Breckinridge for loving and caring so deeply for Mike and Jennie these past seven years. All our love.
