Pyddney JONES Obituary

JONES Pyddney, wife of David Jones and mother of Will and Katie Jones, died Sun at her home, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her son, Murphy Jones, brother, Bill Kobs, and parents, Alfred and Pidd Kobs. Born Sept 12, 1951 in Houston, TX, she had lived in Lexington since 1978. She was a financial advisor with Wells Fargo Advisors and, previously, with Morgan Stanley. Earlier, she was a school librarian at Breckenridge Elementary and a regional librarian for the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives. She graduated, cum laude, from Vanderbilt University in 1973. She also held a Master of Arts in Teaching, 1975, and a Master of Library Science, 1977, from Vanderbilt. She was a parishioner of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where she had been on the vestry and enjoyed volunteering as a children's chapel leader. She also had served on the board of the Good Shepherd Day School. She was a co-chair of the Lexington Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, a nationwide foundation dedicated to fund raising for breast cancer research and education. She was very involved in her children's activities at Henry Clay and Lafayette high schools, the School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and the Spanish immersion programs at Maxwell Elementary and Bryan Station Middle School. A longtime soccer mom, she served as co-president of the Henry Clay boy's soccer booster club. She was especially devoted to several Henry Clay soccer players whose families have come to Lexington as refugees from Africa. She enjoyed supporting them by helping with homework and driving them to practices and games. She felt that they and their families had enriched her life. Another interest of hers was running. She was a regular participant in the Bluegrass 10,000 on the Fourth of July. She also completed marathons in Huntsville, AL, Cincinnati, Columbus and Minneapolis. In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her in-laws: Christine Jones of Memphis; Steve Jones and Mary Bruns and their children, Matt and Ellen, of Summit, N.J.; Dick and Ellen Jones of Louisville; and Dr. Alan and Beth Jones and their children, Shelby, Jack Henry and Caroline, of Fulton, KY. She loved her family and her friends, of whom she had many. She made new friends easily and was deeply devoted to her old ones. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Lexington Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, 1795 Alysheba Way, Suite 1795, Lexington, KY 40509. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Tue at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on East Main Street. The funeral will be at 1pm Wed at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church on East Main at Bell Court, followed by burial at Lexington Cemetery.

I am so sorry to hear of Pyddney's passing. I knew Pyddney in high school and only learned of her passing when I received Lee's 50th anniversary directory. I admired her strength and determination in high school. I know she will be missed.

I regret that I did not know Pyddney as an adult. At Hartsfield Elementary, I recall that she had delicate physical features, but she exhibited the inner strength of her mother. I will always think of her as my first girlfriend, and I give her credit for inspiring me to raise my academic standards in an attempt to impress her. Although I never had the privilege of meeting David, Katie or Will, I am certain that Pyddney has been a profound influence and will be greatly missed.

David and family: I knew Pyddney in Houston from Jr. High all through high school. My mother was a hematologist and worked with Pyddney's mother doing what they called "chromosome research". Now it is called genetics. I thought everyone's mother had Ford Foundation grants - but found out later how special these ladies were. Dr. Pidd was like a second mother to me after my own mother died. Pyddney was a wonderful friend then and I am sorry to know of her death. Blessings to you all.

I was a client of David & Pyddney's both at Morgan Stanley and now at Wells Fargo.

David and Family,
My prayers are with you at this time of your great loss. Pyddney brought the financial world a personal touch which I truly appreciated. I will always remember her telling me that when I was 80 years old she would no longer allow me to drive a car. I think of that often and laugh. I am sure many people remember the smiles that she brought them. Pyddney was a very special lady.

I remember Pyddney and David from their days of living in South Hill and being active in the Historic South Hill Neighborhood Association. I lived for 25 years in South Hill. (I have lived since in Woodward heights.) I extend my condolence to her family.

David, Will, and Katie,
I was so very sorry to hear of Pyddney's death. There is a quote that says, "They are not dead who live in the hearts of those they leave behind" and I think that holds so true here. I got to know Pyddney through soccer. I loved her enthusiasm, her sense of humor, and matter of factness. But mostly I admired her sensitivity to other's needs. She touched many lives... she touched mine. Pyddney will be missed and remembered. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

David and Family,
I taught with Pyddney while she was at Breckinridge. What a beautiful, fun, caring, wonderful teacher and person she was! She loved her family and was so proud of you. She spoke of you all so much that I felt that I knew you all - especially Murphey, who was born during those years. Sending prayers for you all.
