Lexington, Kentucky - Robert Lee Kirkland passed away suddenly on May 15, 2025, in Lexington, KY. He was born on March 18, 1945, in Danville, KY, to the late Kelly Kirkland and Lucy Anna Brooks Kirkland.
Bob grew up in the Forkland community of Boyle County. After graduating from Forkland High School, he went on to earn a degree from the University of Kentucky, then later attended various lending and management schools.
Before embarking on a 30 year career in banking, Bob spent two years teaching at Scott County High School, then joined Second National Bank in Lexington (later becoming National City). Over the years, Bob rose through the ranks as a commercial lender to retire as Area President.
Bob shared his life with his wife, Judy Lane Kirkland, and their three sons, Robert Kirkland, Jr. (Jenny), John Kirkland (Katie), and Thomas Kirkland (Morgan). He was a proud grandfather to Bailey, Will (Jamie), Lucy Anna, Ruby, Hollis, and Fern, each of whom brought him immense joy and pride. His was a brother to William Kirkland (Kay) and the late James Kirkland (Nina).
His time spent working on the family farm in Forkland was a source of great satisfaction. He enjoyed managing timber, mowing, and clearing brush. He was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church and involved in the TKE Alumni Association. Bob had a lifelong love for travel and studying history.
Funeral was held at Milward's May 19th, followed by internment at Elder Cemetery, Gravel Switch, KY.
