Robert Marciani Obituary

Dr. Robert Diego Marciani, a respected Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, passed away on September 1, 2025, in Nashville, TN, at the age of 82. A native of Hackensack, NJ, Dr. Marciani dedicated his life to advancing his field through his work as an educator, author, and surgeon while providing for his family.

Dr. Marciani's distinguished career spanned nearly five decades. He spent 28 years at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry before serving for 20 years as the Chairman of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he was later named Professor Emeritus. His professional accomplishments include co-authoring two seminal textbooks used in training residents and advancing research, and he received multiple awards from his professional organizations for his significant contributions. Known for his mentorship and guidance, Dr. Marciani was an inspiration to hundreds of students and colleagues, and he cherished these relationships above all.

Dr. Marciani was preceded in death by his parents, Remo and Dina Marciani, and his daughter, Marisa Morgan. He is survived by his beloved wife, Hendra, and his daughters, Kara (Jeff Ruppert) and Cristina. He leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Brady (Eric Shirkness) and Hagan Morgan, and Eloise and Charlie Marciani. Other survivors include his sister, Mary Ann Von der Osten (William Taylor); brothers Deacon Thomas Marciani (Desiree) and Richard Marciani (Cathy Chabala); and many nieces and nephews. Dr. Marciani also leaves behind a wealth of loyal friends who contributed to his success and, more importantly, gave meaning to his life.

The family extends special thanks to Abe's Garden and Burton Court at Blakeford Memory Care for his exceptional care. A funeral mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons or charity of your choice.

He was, in fact , all the things the obituary cites but a charming, engaging person as well. UK´s loss was Cincinnati´s gain but he deserved all the accolades.

Dr. Marciani mentored me as a student, and interviewed me as a potential faculty member after I finished my residency program. He was tough, fair and amazingly kind-hearted. I am very glad to have been around him as a student and eventually as a peer. He gave more to the specialty than many will ever know. God bless him and his family! He was an outstanding role model and person.
