Stanford Russell Harvey, II

Lexington, Kentucky - On New Year's day, Stanford Russell Harvey, II, passed away at the Bluegrass Hospice Center at UK Health Care. Stan was 83 and was born on August 6, 1940 in Portsmouth, Ohio and raised in South Portsmouth, KY. Stan had a gift of hospitality and caregiving. He always had a smile on his face and provided a "listening presence" to family members and others. His home hosted many social gatherings and catalyzed many long-term friendships. His photographic memory could remember any detail or current event. Stan was gentle, kind, and had strength of character. He especially cared for his sisters, his parents, his mother-in-law, and two nieces. Stan was supportive and generous to his family and did not impose his opinions on others. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Stanford Russell Harvey and Mary Catherine (Hartman) Harvey. Stan also was close to his deceased father and mother in law - Frances and Phil Graham. His wife Linda Ann (Graham) Harvey cherishes their 55 years of marriage. Stan was devoted to their twin children, Stan(Betty) Harvey lll of Lexington, KY, and their daughter Cara (John) Dalrymple of Annandale, VA who have wonderful memories along with his four grandchildren, Jack Dalrymple, Lilli Dalrymple, Billy Harvey, and Nathan Harvey. Stan had three sisters- he was close to Emily Jane(Galen) Powell of Wheelersburg, Ohio and deceased sister, Delores "Suzanne" Tarr and brother-in-law, James Tarr and deceased sister , Mary Margaret "Peg" Harvey. He was proud of many nieces and nephews. Stan graduated from Kentucky Military Institute, served in the Army Reserve Military Police for six years at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and graduated with an MBA degree from University of Kentucky. He worked for Pan Am, Spindletop Research Center, and was the Chief Executive and co-owner of the Stan Harvey Propane Gas Company with his father and sisters. He was a lifetime member of the Lexington Rotary Club, active in the Serra Club for priestly and nun vocations, involved in parish activities at Christ the King and UK Newman Center, and involved in many community non-profit ventures with Linda such as Birthright of Lexington and the Mediation Center of KY. He particularly loved mediating personal injury cases and co-mediated family cases with Linda. Stanford's life will be celebrated at the Mass of Christian Burial that will be held at the Cathedral of Christ the King at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 6 on the Feast of the Epiphany. There will be a visitation in Christ the King's sanctuary on Friday, January 5th from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. On January 6, there will be visitation at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass with Fr. John Moriarty as presider and Fr. Paul Prabell giving the homily. A reception will follow the Mass and the burial will follow the reception at Calvary Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Fr.
