George Fields Obituary

George D. Fields, 91, of Sweet Home, passed away September 8, 2025 due to complications following a fall in July of 2025. He was born Oct.17,1933 in "Rural" Lamar County, Texas to Claude and Elzie (Linville) Fields. He lived most of his early years in, or near, Wright City, Okla. before moving to Oregon in 1962. Mr. Fields married the love of his life, Joyce Sorrell, on August 3, 1956. He worked for Willamette Industries Sawmill in Sweet Home for over 40 years before retiring. He loved starting his mornings each day with breakfast at "The Spring" restaurant (owned by his wife) and never hesitated to share a story with a stranger. His true enjoyment in life, however, came from his time spent in the woods, or on the river, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved him, including the many that called him "Grampa George." Mr. Fields is survived by his sons; J.C. James of Sweet Home, Dennis Fields of Albany, and Junior Fields of Rattan, Okla.; his grandson Eddie Goodwin of Lebanon (whom he raised as a son); two additional grandsons; seven granddaughters, and a host of great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude, and Elzie; his wife, Joyce Fields; his daughter, Kathy Summers; two brothers, Eugene, and R.L. Fields; and five sisters, Laura Perkins, Martha McAlester, Mary Box, Patricia Roberts, and Linda Jones. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. www.sweethomefuneral.com
