Helen Seeley Obituary

Helen Ruth Fitzgerald Johnson Seeley, age 99.9, passed away on November 6, 2023 at the Sr. Villa in Roosevelt, Utah. She was born in her grandfather's home, Walter Scott, on December 23, 1923 in Provo, Utah to Victor Melville and Ruth Scott Fitzgerald. Helen grew up in a loving home, where both her parents and grandparents were heavily involved in her upbringing. She was the second oldest of six children and had more responsibilities than her younger siblings. She was in charge of gathering well water, cooking meals, household chores, and sometimes working on her grandpa Scott's farm. Because of her time spent on the farm, she developed a deep love for horses. Her favorite gift while growing up was her horse 'Buck'. Buck was tan with a black mane and tail. Buck and Helen were best friends. She spent all of her free time with him. Together they would ride through the fields with the wind blowing around them. Helen graduated from Provo High School in 1942 and then spent the summer in Coquille, Oregon, with her brother Ferris, and he introduced her to his best friend Carl Johnson, whom she would later marry. The three of them had a great summer together. She then attended BYU for elementary education. On April 22, 1944, she married the love of her life, Carl D. Johnson in Spokane, Washington. Carl and Helen were later sealed for all time and eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in July 1950. Together they had two beautiful children, David and Kathleen. After 24 years of marriage, Carl drowned in a boating accident on August 28,1968. Years later, on July 2, 1977, Helen married to Arthur Seeley. They had a companionable, adventurous marriage. Art passed away February 15, 2002. Helen left quite the legacy. She loved her family, friends, and career dearly. She taught kindergarten for 35 years and the five year olds in Primary for over 50 years. The love she had for children rubbed off on her own children, David and Kathleen who also became teachers. Helen is survived by her daughter: Kathleen (McCord) Marshall; daughter-in- law, Teena Johnson; grandchildren: Holli Snow, Micki (John) Allred, Christopher (Jaymalee) Johnson, Tammy Johnson, Misty Pantle, James (Heather) Johnson; great-grandchildren: Krystal (Seth) Evans, Katelyn (Zach) Courtright, Kyson (Faith) Snow, Kristina (Parker) Brotherson, Krag Allred, Kendrick Allred, Keldon Johnson, McKenna Johnson, Dallin Johnson, Lola Johnson, Jamison Johnson, Tatum Pantle, Tanner Pantle, Reese Pantle, Myla Johnson, Lincoln Johnson; great-great-grandchildren: Bliss Evans, Kreedyn Evans, Jameson Evans, Bonnie Courtright, Lenny Courtright, Khloe Reay Brotherson, and Benson Snow. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl D. Johnson, Arthur Seeley; son, David C. Johnson; and her siblings, Ferris V. Fitzgerald, LaDawn Farr, Edna Mae McMahon, Scott Fitzgerald, and Eugene Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3500 West 18th Avenue, Eugene Oregon. A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Lane Memorial Gardens, 5300 West 11th, Eugene, OR, at 2:00 p.m.
