Hugh Michael Freeman

Hugh Michael Freeman passed away peacefully on July 15, at Riverbend Hospital in Springfield, Oregon, after many years of suffering from the effects of cancer & subsequent treatments in 2011. Mike was born in Danville, Illinois, on October 29, 1943. He graduated from Danville High School in 1961 and earned a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois in 1965. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Freeman & Barbara(Eckert) Freeman, and much loved sister, Patricia(Freeman) Mielke(Steve) of Danville, Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judith (Guy)Freeman of Rensselaer, Indiana;sons, Gerald M. Freeman(Annette) of Georgia, and Douglas G. Freeman(Sarah) and grandson, Owen Michael of Idaho;siblings Deborah(Freeman) Kanger(Dave) of Tennessee; Glenda(Doney)Williams(Blake)of Florida;and Richard Doney of Illinois. He spent his working years at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut, while living in Marlborough. After retiring in 2000, he worked in auditing at Dollywood, after moving to Russellville, TN. Mike's favorite things in life besides his family, we're target shooting,sailing lakes in CT & TN, listening to Dixieland Jazz, playing Euchre & dominos and traveling around our beautiful country. Since moving to Oregon in 2016, he had developed a great interest in geology, earthquakes & volcanoes. In Danville, he had attended St. James Methodist Church and in Connecticut, he was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in East Hampton. In 1998, he found the Baha'i teachings and he lived the remainder of his life as a member of the Baha'i Faith. There will be a graveside service at Lane Memorial Gardens on West 11th, Eugene, Oregon on July 22, 2025 at 2PM.
