Edward Hoey Obituary

Edward "Ed" Ignatius Hoey, Jr., 78, of Rochester, MN, passed away on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital. Ed was born on March 7, 1947, in Great Neck, NY, to Edward and Mary (Gustoski) Hoey. He entered the United States Army in 1966 and was stationed in Dexheim, Germany for two years. On September 18, 1971, he married Sharon M. Smith, also of Great Neck. The couple made their home in New Hyde Park, NY, where they raised their two daughters. Ed worked as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 37 years. Following his retirement, he and Sharon relocated to Rochester, MN, to be closer to their daughters. Ed enjoyed watching football-especially cheering on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish-and baseball. He also loved painting, woodworking, and treasured the companionship of his faithful dog, Skippy. He is survived by his daughters, Kelley Hoey of Mantorville, MN, and Jaclyn Hoey of Eden Prairie, MN; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Abigail, and Ayden. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon.
