James Martines Obituary

James David Martines, 52, of Atascadero, Calif., passed away Friday, June 18 at Twin Cities Hospital in Templeton, Calif.
James was born in 1969 in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He was the youngest son of George and Ann Martines, and grew up in a lively family with three siblings, numerous animals, and lots of crazy laughs.
James had a big heart and an amazingly charming personality and he will be immensely missed by all who knew him, personally and in his professional life as well.
James worked alongside his brother, Mike, in the Agriculture industry for 25 years, and he amassed an impressive resume of knowledge and expertise in his chosen career. He did it all, from farming, to being the ambassador of our company, field supervisor, harvest manager, seed genetic specialist, the list goes on.
James was especially instrumental in assisting Mr. Bill Albers of Magic Seed Co. in successfully integrating and introducing several new varieties of sugar snap peas into the commercial marketplace, both in California and in Mexico. Over the last 17 years, James was personally responsible for the evolutionary production of 100 million pounds of fresh stringless sugar snap peas.
He was a rare combination of savvy professional and best friend to all he worked with, truly one of the good guys. James's smile and quick to laugh attitude, warmth, and unusual toughness will be missed. James was preceded in death by his sister, Rosalind; and his father, George.
James is survived by daughter, Dallas Maxa and husband Rick Maxa; mother, Ann Martines; brothers, Mike and John; nephews, Jeremiah and Johnny; nieces, Jessica, Jenni ,Lauren and Louise; and two very special women who shared very important times in his life, Lysa Paine and Tracy Truttman.
A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 6 at 10 a.m. at Old Mission Church in San Luis Obispo.
We, the Martines Family, are very grateful for the immense outpouring of compassion and support during this difficult time and we thank each one of you from the bottom of our hearts.

My cousin introduced me to my very first scary movie . Always with a smile and a laugh, James was the only cousin I had around my age. As an only kid, that meant a lot. Even when we hadn´t seen each other for a long time, and we´d see each other again- there he was, with that big smile. He was a warm, inviting, safe place for me. A buddy out there. He was everyone´s buddy. I feel peace knowing DeeDee will show him the way. Love you James.

Worked for Mike & Mary when Lauren was about 7 back in 1995/1996. James came in the office quite often and was always a refresher to the day always having something to say that made me laugh. My sincerest condolences to Mike and the entire family. He was quite the presence and I'm certain he will be missed by all that knew him. ~Danielle E. Shipman
