Randall Goodnight Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Randall Keith Goodnight, lovingly known as "Randy," who passed away peacefully at home in Greenfield, CA, on February 8, 2025, at the age of 81.

Randall was born in Ogden, Utah, to Viva Harveston (Record) and Thomas Jefferson (TJ) Goodnight of Arkansas. He was the beloved younger brother of Shelba Jean Goodnight. He is survived by his devoted wife, Emily (Arroyo), his loving daughter, Natalie Jean Lopez (Armando), his son, Brian Keith Goodnight, and his cherished granddaughter, Zoey Lopez, who was the light of his life.

Randall spent his entire life in Greenfield, where he formed deep roots in the community. He attended Greenfield Elementary School before graduating from King City High School in the Class of 1962. During those years, he was an active member of the King City High School football team, playing on the offensive line and contributing to an undefeated MTAL season that led to a CCS title. Beyond football, he enjoyed socializing with his classmates and making lasting memories.

After high school, Randall attended Hartnell College and began his career as a truck driver before discovering his true passion in construction. He worked for Armer Construction and Piini Construction before concluding his career at the Monterey County Housing Authority. He specialized in concrete work but was also known for his craftsmanship in custom construction projects across Monterey County and beyond. He took immense pride in his work, ensuring that every job was done right and always had the radio on when working.

Randall met his wife, Emily, while working for Piini Construction on the rebuild of the Arroyo family home on the "Ranch" in Gonzales. They married in 1974 at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Gonzales and made their home in Greenfield. Together, they enjoyed attending dances throughout Monterey County, classic car shows, and supporting their children, nieces and nephews through projects with the 4-H Club.

Randall was a people person-his kind heart, big laugh, and gentle soul left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He took great pride in being an uncle and had a deep love for his family and friends. He always went out of his way to make sure those around him felt welcome, offering food, snacks, drinks, and a comfortable place to stay.

He found joy in road trips, lake days, giving boat rides to all his nieces, nephews and children, camping, and riding his Harley Davidson. He had a passion for classic cars, dancing, motorcycles, cooking, and BBQing-always making sure everyone around him was well-fed and having a great time. Visitors could always count on Randall to have a "cowboy" movie playing or a hot rod show on in the background, a testament to his lifelong love for Westerns and classic cars.

Randall's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 15, 2025 at St. Theodore's Catholic Church, 116 S. Belden St. in Gonzales.

I was lucky enough to work with Randall all over the Salinas Valley. He knew everything about construction and was the best cement finisher in the Valley. I learned a lot from this hard working man and will never forget him. RIP Randall

I have fond memories of working with Randall along with a bunch of great guys when I was much younger. Always quick with a laugh, a joke, or a warm smile. He will be missed greatly.
