Sylvia Parsons Obituary

Sylvia Hearl Parsons passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and love. Born on February 19, 1939, to Virginia and Richard Hearl, Sylvia grew up with a strong sense of family and faith that shaped her life and the lives of so many around her. She was predeceased by her beloved parents and her three sisters, Peggy Camlin, Linda Floyd, and Beth Duke. In 1963, Sylvia married the love of her life, Louis P. Parsons, with whom she shared 43 joyful years until his passing in 2006. Together, they built a beautiful life in Georgetown, South Carolina, raising three children: Ellen P. Thames (Tim) of Columbia, SC; Payton Parsons (Wendy) of Pawleys Island, SC; and Joy Parsons, who passed away in 2019. Her five grandchildren-Alice Clark, Anna Parsons, Mac Thames, L.P. Parsons, and Ashley Parsons-will especially miss their cherished "Granna," whose constant presence at their games, performances, and everyday moments was a gift they will never forget. Sylvia was a lifelong member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Her clear soprano voice and radiant smile were a source of comfort and joy to all who heard and saw her. She also sang with the Indigo Choral Society, one of her great passions and pleasures. Warmth and welcome defined Sylvia's home, where friends and family were always embraced. She had a true gift for hospitality, especially during the beloved four-day Parsons Thanksgiving celebration she joyfully hosted each year. Around her table, laughter, love, and good food were always in abundance. Her many nieces and nephews will fondly remember those gatherings and the special place Sylvia held in their lives. Sylvia worked alongside her husband, Louis, in building Parsons Nursery, a family business founded in 1959. In more recent years, she continued that work side by side with her son Payton, forming close bonds with many friends and colleagues in the nursery industry. To know Sylvia was to know a generous, kind, and loving woman-whether you called her Momma, Granna, Aunt, sister, or friend. A memorial service will be held at Georgetown Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. with a reception immediately following. Burial will be at Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens following the reception. In lieu of flowers, the family invites memorial donations to Georgetown Presbyterian Church or the Indigo Choral Society, two places where Sylvia shared her heart and her voice. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. The Downtown Chapel of Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. Dear Payton,
Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother. My best memories of her were at SC Nurseryman Association Trade Shows. She was always gracious and welcoming. Talking to her on the company phone was like talking to my mom...soft spoken, caring, and calm.
I know the pain of loss as both my mom and dad have now passed. Relish your memories and she will always be with you.
