Ean Phillips Obituary

Ean Franzis Phillips

Grapeview - May 9th, 1990 - May 9th, 2021

Beloved son of Woodburn and Geraldine; faithful brother of Sean and Darrel. Survived by numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Ean attended Bremerton High School for four years between 2004 and 2008. During this time, he was a valued member of the varsity wrestling team, having competed at state level championships. He was granted the honorific of "Mr. Wrestler" in his sophomore year for his technical ability and for the example he provided for his fellow athletes. After high school, Ean sought to put his mechanical gifts and ingenuity to work. He took classes at Olympic College, and after two years, attained a technical degree in welding. He was promptly accepted into the apprenticeship program from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard; he became a journeyman welder in 2015 after completing his coursework. While in the apprenticeship program, Ean was known as a dependable source of knowledge and experience for his coworkers in the program and was instrumental in their success. As an avid outdoorsman, Eas was always eager to appreciate nature. Growing up, he learned the art of fishing from his father at the family's lake property. He constantly had fishing trips planned with friends and relatives. One of his most cherished vacations was fishing with his father in Yellowstone National Park- he provided weeks of meals from the haul during that trip. Ean was fascinated by owls. He read multiple books about them and was always on the lookout for one wherever he went. Ean was even able to form a friendship with an owl at his childhood home. In 2006, he spotted a barred owl in the backyard and named him Strike. Ean was diligent about maintaining a stock of mice for his feathered friend, and every time he came home to visit, Strike was there to see Ean and get a snack. Church was a significant source of strength and community for Ean. He took pride in spreading the Gospel to youth during sessions of the children's church and Awana's clubs. He befriended many of the elderly in his congregation. Two of his friends, Daisy and Violet, were always delighted to see him, and he always took the opportunity to see them while he was in town. Ean never had a day without working on something. He was happy to talk about his current projects with anyone willing to listen. He surrounded himself with knowledgeable friends and family with whom he could discuss mechanical issues and bounce ideas around. His curiosity was as boundless as his energy. An exemplar of patience and love, Ean could always spare a kind word for a friend or stranger alike. He enjoyed spending hours playing games with his family. Ean was an open and honest person, and he was slow to criticize anyone. His spirit will always survive as long as warmth and charity pricks human conscience - as long as creativity and joy fuel artistic expression and purposeful industry. He is severely missed.
