James Harvey Obituary

James Arlen Harvey

Bremerton, WA

Feb. 20, 1940 to Aug. 14, 2018

On Saturday, August 11th 2018, Jim was working at home when he suffered a traumatic fall. On Tuesday, August 14th 2018, after a few days in trauma intensive care, Jim passed away at Harborview Medical Center due to complications from his devastating injuries.

Among his many accomplishments were serving for 20 years in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. During his many proud years of service as an Aircrew man, he had many accomplishments, including receiving 2 air medals. Upon retirement he continued his service as a machinist at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport where he earned the Apprentice of the Year in 1987. These are just a few of his many achievements in his lifetime, however, they reflect the motto that he lived his life by: if you are going to do something, do the very best you can, for your work product is a reflection of who you are as a person and your work ethic is a reflection of your character.

Jim was born in Aberdeen, WA to James and Lyra (Botkin) Harvey. James was preceded in death by his father James and his mother Lyra. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Patricia (Garity) Harvey and three siblings Clifford Harvey(Barbara), Norma Jean Jaurez, and Gail Christiansen. Pat and Jim have two children Tod Harvey (his children Nicole, Alyssa, and Savannah) and Gena (Harvey) Coleman (her children Dillon and Brittany). James was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. His hobbies included clam digging, machining parts for absolutely everyone, hunting, and especially gopher shooting.

Jim was a private man whose preference was that no services be held in his honor; instead, he will have a Navy burial at sea. In lieu of a funeral the family encourages intimate remembrances of the impact that Jim had on your life and in the community.

It is with heavy but grateful hearts that the family thanks those who provided care to Jim in the events preceding his death; specifically Harborview Medical Center, Kitsap Fire and Rescue, Airlift Northwest, and Jeff Rowe, the neighbor who found and provided aid to him.
