Kim Bergsma Obituary

Kim Franklin Bergsma, long-time Bremerton resident, died November 23rd after a short battle with cancer. Kim was a quiet, hard-working man who loved to fish and who maintained close friendships and family ties here in Bremerton where he spent most of his life.

Kim was born to Francis and Katherine Bergsma (nee Kimbrough) on February 12th, 1952, in Custer, WA, the family moved to Bremerton where he was raised. After graduating from East Bremerton High School in 1970, he served in the US Army for two years before returning to this area. Not long after, he accepted a position at Strategic Weapons Facility, Pacific (SWF-PAC) Keyport, where he attained a role as a quality-assurance specialist and where he was recognized for his extremely thorough and meticulous work. Kim retired from SWF-PAC in 2008 after 36 years of service.

Kim married Carol Howton in May 1971 and daughter Casie was born soon after. Kim later married Connie Morgan. Kim and Connie remained together until her death in 2006.

He loved the outdoors. Kim was a proficient fisherman, he also made many hunting trips to Arizona with his wife Connie's family.

Kim had a stoic outlook on life that was lightened with a dry sense of humor, which he kept until the end. He was a private man but he was fiercely loyal to his family and good friends. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his daughter Casie Bergsma Fetterman, Bremerton, WA; sisters Bev Walker (Federal Way, WA), Darlene Jones (Dumas, TX), Sharon Clark, (Bremerton, WA), Gail Heinz (Henderson, NV), Meribeth Rowe (Covington, WA), and brothers Rod (Port Townsend, WA), Mark (Silverdale, WA), and Scott (Bremerton, WA). He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers Craig and Denny, and his wife Connie.

A celebration of life will be held March 3, 2019, at 12:00pm at Island Lake , Poulsbo, WA.

Kim and I did a lot of fishing together as kids. He could certainly bait his own hook, I'll say that. Just my way of saying he knew how to catch fish. He never backed down but had a heart big as all outdoors, where he loved to spend his spare time. I have nothing but fond memories. My sincerest condolences to the Bergsma clan.

I grew up across the street from the Bergsma family and was a friend of Kim, his brothers, and the entire, very nice family. Kim, brother "Denny", my brothers and I played several years of wiffle ball and football in our yards together. Kim was such a good guy, as were, and are his brothers. Kim had a big, wonderful family, who I miss.

My best wishes for everyone in the Bergsma family. I know that it is a very big loss to be without Kim. Sincerely, Bill Berentsen
