Shirley Haven Obituary

Shirley Lucas Haven

Poulsbo, WA

Shirley Lucas Macleod Haven passed away peacefully on March 20th at the age of 87.

Shirley was born and raised in Seattle where she attended Bagley Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School. Shirley maintained lifelong friendships with many of her classmates and enjoyed attending the reunions for both schools. She loved that she and her elementary school friends, in later years, referred to themselves as the "Bagley Bags."

After high school, Shirley joined her family in Whittier, Alaska. There she met and married Army Lt. Duncan Macleod of Lynchburg, VA. They moved to Fort Campbell Kentucky where their daughter, Shirley Marie, was born. Shortly after, Duncan was called up to active duty in Korea, and sadly, was killed in action. Shirley returned to Seattle and settled in the Lake City area where she created a wonderful home and raised her young daughter.

In 1967, Shirley married Douglas "Doug" Wayne Haven. They were happily married for over 40 years. Together they established and ran the Budget Rent-a-Car franchise in Bremerton. They designed and built their beautiful home in Poulsbo's Nesika Bay. Shirley and Doug were both very active in the business and civic community. Shirley, who took great pleasure in gardening, was a longtime member of the Bainbridge Island Garden Club. She also belonged to the Bainbridge Island Soroptomists Club. As a member of the Wing Point Country Club, Shirley enjoyed golfing and playing bridge.

Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Douglas, and parents, Aileen and James J. Lucas. She is survived by her daughter Shirley "Re" Macleod, her step-children, Holly Haven Brassington and Douglas Maxey Haven (Jan), and her loving younger sisters, Carmen Lucas Steele and Nannette Lucas Buren.

Our family will always remember Shirley for her laughter, style, and cleverness. We are in awe of the strength and grace she demonstrated in the face of adversity. She will be missed, but not forgotten.

We would like to acknowledge and thank Linda Navage, Shirley's Legal Guardian, who made sure Shirley was able to spend her last years in the home she loved.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In memory of Shirley, we ask that donations be made to support Alzheimer's research.
