Jim will always be remembered as a man of integrity, quick wit and most of all committment to his life's work. His passing is a loss not only to his friends and collegues, but to thousands of people that never met him - the thousands of Tennesseans with intellectual disabilities that benefitted from his efforts.

With the opening of tiny hands we grasp all that life is, and what it will do, we walk among those whom we hope to have an effect upon, for the betterment of all man/womankind, with the closing of hands, we greet the enemy of death, but the chapter is not closed with the enemy, but is re-opened afresh. Anew, we greet the Savior, never shall we see an enemy again. Youth is fleeting and forever disguised in our body, daily we commune with youth, and daily youth leaves us behind, eternally, shall we embrace youth, pain, suffering, aged, all vanish away, we shall see the green clover, and smell the whiff of the rose again, a trust in the foundation of Christ shall not deceive us, but bear us up into glory, and forever, shall our abode be with Him. Although we lay down in sleep, we merely change the place where our feet shall walk.
"Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. - Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure."
I worked with Jim and Ellen at the Sertoma Center when it was called the Sunshine Center, and later, the Sertoma Center on Dandridge Avenue, it is always painful to see those whom we have associated with in this life, to lay down, but our hope is not found here, but in Christ. To Ellen and the family who still walk among us, it is our hope and desire that you may find comfort and rest for the sadness you now embrace and the lonely days that are to come, and that Christ will ease your sorrow abundantly.
