JOHN DUNCAN Obituary

DUNCAN, JOHN "GAVIN" - age 23, of Knoxville, formerly of Johnson City, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 24, 2014. Gavin was a graduate of Science Hill High School class of 2010 and a graduate of the University of Tennessee class of 2014. He was a staff counselor of Campus Crusade for Christ "CRU". Gavin's ambition was to touch as many lives as possible for Christ. His goal was to be involved in overseas ministry. He brought love and the joy of Christ wherever he went. He made strangers into friends and friends into family. He was our gift from God. Gavin is survived by the one he loved, Jenna Weaver of Knoxville; mother and step father, Wendy and Mark Tucker of Charleston, South Carolina; father, James Duncan of Johnson City; brother, Garrett Duncan of Johnson City; grandparents, Pam and John Hatch of Tarpon Springs, Florida; several aunts, uncles and cousins. A celebration and worship service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Sanctuary of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, 9132 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37923. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Private graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Campus Crusade for Christ, for University of Tennessee Knoxville Campus Ministry @ give.cru.org/0668462. A Gavin Duncan scholarship will be set up shortly. Donation baskets will be located at the church. My son, a UTK student, told me about your terrible loss tonight. Please know that our family is praying you. May God be very real & provide for you as you face this horrendous heartbreak. This world is not our home, & I know that it brings comfort knowing that Gavin loved, served, & is now with his Lord & Savior, but I know that he'll be sorely missed for now...

Gavin, my best friend for almost 20 years, you were my brother! We did everything together from the first day I moved into the neighborhood! I love you to the moon and back times infinity! I know with out a doubt you're in Heaven, looking down upon us! Gavin, you've made me so proud of the man you are, always living the righteous path & spreading the word of Christ! You've touched the lives of so many people, it's incredible! I love you Gavin, it's not goodbye, but I'll see you soon in Heaven! I promise I will make you proud, and always let others know about Jesus! You're final gift to us was a blessing! I love you brother, I'll see you soon in Heaven! The sun is so beautiful this morning I know you're rejoicing in Heaven! I love you brother!

I remember the first day I moved into the neighborhood...17 + years ago, there's not a day that I can think of that Gavin, Joey, Tim, and I didn't spend together ...it was always us and the rugrats lol (Ty, Em, & Garrett)! From dribbling basketballs on your head, to the massive luge Jim made us during the blizzard, to playing army in red clay... Which ruined my clothes lol! We spent every day playing around the world in basketball, going to vacation bible school, and picking every plum off the trees in our neighborhood! If I could rewind time back, I would in a heartbeat! I go back to the time when it was the 4 best friends!!We thought AIM was the stuff (even if it was dial up lol)! I was the only girl in the neighborhood for awhile, but that never stopped me from watching my boys turn into gentlemen! Gavin I'm so proud of you! We fought like brothers and sisters that's for sure! You were my brother from another mother, and I was always your big sis! I love you brother to the moon and back times infinity, I hope I make you proud! I'm always going to share the word of God and I know that's what you would want me to do. I love you, it's not goodbye, I'll see you soon in Heaven! Thank you for the message the other night because I can only imagine! Love you Gavin, I'll see you soon! I Love you Wendy, Jim and Garrett!
