Paul Douglas Baker, M.D. of Knoxville, Tennessee, died on October 19, 2018. He was born August 16, 1945, in Carver, Kentucky. His family moved to Winamac, Indiana where he graduated from Winamac High School. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana for his undergraduate degree. He completed his medical school degree and residency in anesthesiology at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In Knoxville, Paul joined Knoxville Anesthesia Group at St. Mary's Hospital where he practiced for over 30 years. He served as Chief of Staff in 1997. He loved his work and greatly appreciated the doctors, nurses and patients with whom he worked. Paul was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and Covenant Sunday school class.

Paul enjoyed outdoor activities, hiking, and photography. Horse riding was a passion, and he spent hours riding the trails of Tennessee. His favorite Tennessee Walkers, Duncan and Stepper, were his loyal companions. Paul explored the world, and with his wife, Kathy, traveled not only throughout the United States, but also to many foreign countries. He was an avid reader, especially history and philosophy. His favorite times were with family, children and grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife, Kathy, son Daniel (Jennifer) Baker, M.D., and daughter Emily (Kevan) Kaderly; and grandchildren Ethan, Marin and Chase Kaderly, Haley, Austin, and Preston Baker. He is also survived by brother Alonzo (Beverly) Baker and sister Brenda (Timothy) Brown; sister-in-law Lesley Bookout; sister-in-law Julie (Kerry) Klemm; sister-in-law Mary Jo (Dick) Hosack, and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Stella Baker, sister Jeanette Bailey, sister Daisy Baker, brothers Ernest Bailey and William Baker, brother-in-law Mel Bookout, father-in-law Melvin Bookout, mother-in-law Caroline Bookout and nephew Harry Johnston.

A memorial Service will be held on November 3rd at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, Pastor Clay Harrington officiating. Receiving of friends will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church.

My sympathies and condolences are with the Baker family. I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Baker for 20 years at St. Mary's and found him to be a wonderful, caring physician. He always put quality patient care first and foremost.
