It is very saddening to loose a man that was an Icon since my childhood. Whose children were my best childhood friend, and childhood sweetheart. I can't imagine the loss they feel. Time and distance have separated the relationship. The feelings from my heart for their friendship and the friendships with others in the church will be with me always.

Marilyn,

I am so sorry to hear of Bro. Bob's passing. My father also went to be with the Lord last year, so I know your sorrow is great. My consolation is knowing that Dad & Bro. Bob are up there rejoicing in the Lord and having a wonderful time with all our loved ones who passed before. You and your family always meant so much to me and I have never forgotten. I want you to know that I'm praying for you, your Mom and family.

Love & Prayers,

I learned about Brother Bob when my first book, The Great Exchange, was published. I went to Amazon.com to see the listing and Brother Bob's book popped up. So I bought it. You see, we share the same name and the same Lord! I hoped to meet him some day, but I'll just have to wait. It's encouraging to read of his faithfulness in ministry!

Bro. Bob I loved so very much. He was a great servant of Christ Jesus Our Lord. He was a true blessing and friend of mine through the years. My dad attended and was a member of the Tabernacle for many years. I always loved to here him preach and give a invitation. We lost a great and true servant. I am so sorry to learn of Bro. Bob's passing, but I know he is in a far better place than we are. I remember as a child my Mother listening to him on the radio and he came to our area to preach a revival at Tabernacle Baptist in Bassett,VA, my family didn't attend that church but we went to the revival. In September 2000 my Dad was in Knoxville Baptist Hospital since he had gotten sick while on vacation in Gatlinburg and Bro. Bob visited him. Dad said he didn't have to introduce himself he knew who he was as soon as he heard his voice. He enjoyed his visit, in a few days we had him moved to a hospital closer to home and he went to meet his Lord and Savior on October 4,2000. I sent Bro. Bob a note of thanks after his passing and have gotten the Bible Broadcaster since.I enjoy reading it and will miss his words of encouragement. He was a real soldier of the cross. To his dear wife and family I will be praying for you. Remember that the Lord said his grace was sufficient.

Mrs. Mary Scates is happy now. She can see and hear Bro. Bob preach again. She loved him as her minister, friend and person. She hated to miss church and all her friends there which she spoke so highly about. Pray for Mrs. Bevington for her loss also and give her strength and also his congregation which has lost a great pastor and a great person. Thru my mother and my trip to Alaska with the church a few years ago, I also knew him. May God bless all church members and friends.

November 15, 2009

Bro. Bob has been my families pastor for 48 years. I had the priviledge of being in the first class when K.B.C.S was founded. Bro. Bob was a fine example of what a Christian life should be all about. Faith, Love for his Lord & Saviour, and being steadfast to the very end of his earthly life. We will miss you Bro.Bob,until we meet on that beautiful shore.

Still in shock several hours after I read the notice from Brother Tony in the latest KBT newsletter, my only regret is not being able to join the others who bid Brother Bob farewell. Privileged to meet this faithful shepherd this side of eternity, his passing greatly increases my desire to also be in the presence of our Lord in our eternal Home. Now "He's not here!" also applies to Brother Bob as it did our Savior on that early resurrection morning. I pray that lonliness and loss felt by those he loved will be replaced with peace. joy and anticipation. Very soon we will all meet Bro Bob in the air! Maranatha!

Dear Mrs. Bevington and family,

How happy I was to have come to the USA last winter, and to have visited with you after the service on March 1st. It was so good to see you, to sit with Dr. Bob Bevington in his sunday school class and to me Pastor Tony Green. The church is in good hands. May the lord bless this legacy and give strength for the future! With our love and prayers, Tim and Elisabeth Knickerbocker, France

It was an honor and priveledge to be under the ministry of Bro. Bob. The doctrine and standards I hold today were learned at his feet each Sunday with him carefully breaking apart God's Word for all to hear. It is because of the grace and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ and Bro. Bob's godly influence that I currently serve as a deacon at the Baptist church we attend here. Though his physical ministry has ceased, his testimony will echo thru time. Tim Ford (KBCS 1980) & Family

Oh, how we will miss Bro. Bob. Just wait until we have the "Meeting in the Air" that he & Mary Lou used to sing about. Marilyn and family thank you for sharing Bro. Bob with the many people he ministered to. He probably has not stopped talking and I do not blame him. He so faithfully served his Lord. I was saved in Sunday school at KBT and grew up and surrendered in full-time Christian work at KBT. So many, many memories.

What great memories we made, when our family went to the Tabernacle and KBCS!
I remember a snow day, Patti Settle, my brother Mark and I were enjoying a snow ball fight. Mark was on the roof of the church, waiting for Patti or me to come out that back door. The door opened, Mark threw, only for it to hit Bro. Bob. That was one day, Bro. Bob showed his sense of humor and grace!
The church has touched so many lives. I got my start, working with the deaf; which enabled me to work and begin other deaf ministries.
May the Lord continue to comfort your hearts', through this time of sorrow and grief.

"Mary Lou and Marlyn, We are so sorry for your loss! I remember when I first met "Bro Bob" I came to church on Mother's Day to be with my Mom ( Shirley Trevena) to spend the day with her. At the time I was not living for the "Lord" like I am today, and "Bro Bob" treated me like we had known each other for a long time, he treated me like I was somebody, not a person that was not living right. He had a glow on his face! That glow was "GOD" shining through him so that I could see that! We thank "GOD" for giving us people like him!!!! May "GOD" bless all of you and keep his loving arms around you to!!! Sharon and Rick Flynn ( Seymour, Tenn)

Mary Lou and Marlyn,
I am sorry to hear of your loss. The first thing I thought about was the reunion in heaven. Brother Bob has seen the Lord, his loved ones and friends. I pray for comfort for you in the days ahead. I was a member of the church for many years and was saved and baptized because of hearing the word of God there. Brother Bob will never be forgotten.

My earliest childhood memories consist of Brother Bob, KBT, and KBCS. My brother and sister attended KBCS in the basement of KBT, but it was always Brother Bob's vision to move the school into a proper building. After countless candy sells his vision became a reality, and I was fortunate enough to spend my middle and high school years in a brand new building.

Brother Bob spent countless hours not only overseeing his flock, but ensuring that KBCS and its students were a beacon for the entire world to see. I truly believe that he knew and loved each student that passed through the halls of KBCS.

His presence will be missed for generations to come, but his spirit will always be alive in the teachings of KBT and KBCS.

Although I met Bro Bob late in his life, I consider it an honor that he regarded me as one of his close friends. I had the unique privilege of going to Israel with him on his last trip to the Holy Land. He will always be remembered as a stalwart soldier for God, and touched many lives. Rejoice in the fact that we will one day be reunited with him in Heaven.

Bro. Bob was such an encouragement to me as a young and first time Pastor. Many times I have spent time on the phone with him talking about ministry and receiving council. Most recently Brother Bob attended the Pastors' Breakfast & Fellowship at Grove City Baptist and the Lord Jesus used him in such a wonderful way. The message and helpful words were such an encouragement to the Pastors attending. May his work for the Lord continue though his labor for Jesus is now finished.

Brother Bob will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched directly and indirectly by his servanthood, obedience and love of the Father. Being one of the 1st KBCS students to graduate ('85) after attending all 12 yrs, the school and KBT were my home. There were many a time I would drop by the church/school on a Saturday "just to come home" and sit in the Sanctuary or in the Big Room. Brother Bob would often be there and Say "Karin, It is so wonderful to see you, come in and tell me what is going on in your life". No matter how many yrs went by, he never forgot me or my family.

Just know his legacy will continue in the lives of each KBCS student.

Be comforted in knowing he is with the Father now..he ran the race and fought the fight and has now attained the prize - Eternal Life with Jesus!

Some may be inclined to think, "Dear God, this is it? This was Your man and this is how it ends?" Only one thing wrong with that line of thinking: this isn't it and this isn't how it ends. No, Bro. Bob is only just now arriving at the beginning. All God did on 04 November 2009 was say to His faithful soldier, "It's okay, Soldier. You can lay down your arms now and rest in My presence." Knoxville, Tennessee has lost a legend, but Heaven has welcomed home one of its finest warriors for Christ. I am honored to have known Bro. Bob and to have called him a friend. I am grateful to have been influenced by his ministry. God, Himself, only knows where I might have wound up without the ministry of Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle and Knoxville Baptist Christian Schools. I am so very thankful for the vision of Bro. Bob and his heart and desire to win people to Christ.

Words cannot do justice to the legacy of a man who was responsible for preaching the word of God to thousands of people. I personally owe a great deal to him, and his wonderful family, Mary Lou, Marilyn, Bob, Billy, and Bryan.

There is a terrible void today in the lives of the countless many who knew Brother Bob. Yet, we can take comfort in knowing that one of these days, we will see him again amongst our loved ones in the great Revival in the heavens, alongside our Saviour.

Requiescat in pace, Brother Bob. And may the Lord God Almighty comfort your loved ones today and tomorrow, until we meet again.

Brother Bob was a true leader, a faithful servent of God until his very last breath. His dedication to the Lord lead him along with a group of other believers to found Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle, which grew from meeting in a house to the beautiful church it is today. He felt a strong desire to encourage children to " Grow in Grace and Knowledge" so the church opened Knoxville Baptist Christian School. Bro. Bob's mission for KBCS was to teach children from a young age to embrace God's word and delight in the blessings that come from living a life that honors Him such as peace, contentment, love and concern for others. He taught us to prepare our hearts and minds to live in the changing world around us without teaching us isolation and fear.
Thank You Bro. Bob for many years of friendship, leadership and a beautiful example of a life lived to honor God and in service to those around you. You will always be the true leader of KBT & KBCS.
