She married Henry Trent, Jr. in Athens on May 5, 1956, and they moved to New York City shortly thereafter. They lived in New York City several years before moving to Atlanta, GA, where they lived for 27 years. Their family attended St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church was Sophie was very active. She was the first woman to be elected to the Vestry. In addition, she was in retailing and operated an antique business for several years. Sophie was a special person who saw the beauty in nature. Her home was expertly arranged and reflected her wide interests. Her flower arrangements were outstanding. She loved to fish in ponds and creeks particularly in Meigs County and was an excellent piscatorial contestant. She loved to garden and enjoyed the spring as much as she could do so. We who know her best, will miss her for she was always "up for the game." As her wish, she will be cremated and placed at a pond on a hillside in Meigs County for a private ceremony. She loved a short quotation which is as follows: "Life is eternal, and love is immortal, and what we call death is only the horizon, beyond which we cannot see." Author unknown. The Trents were our next door neighbors growing up. I'll always remember the wonderful vegetable gardens they planted. Sneaking in to see what they had. When ever I am luckey enough to see a huge yellow and black garden spider, I think of her and that garden. She was a wonderful, no nonsense women. I pray that her family feels God's love and that she may rest in peace.
