Tom Thompson
July 3, 2024
Thinking about Tommy today..."quick" story that after meeting shortly after leaving Penn State we lost touch for decades. I was at a work meeting visiting Alcoa and who walks in to the meeting as VP...Tommy! I saw the name on the agenda but said "No way..". He acted like we had lost no time and made me feel special although he was the special guy dealing with his deteriorating health so positively. I also do not think many people realize how special a basketball player he was at Penn State. I checked the records and after nearly 50 years he is still in the top 5 all-time in Assists per Game, Career Assists and Defensive Turnover Percentage. So glad to have known him.

Barbara:
I can not tell you how heartbroken I am for your loss. To know Tommy was to love Tommy.
I sat and cried for a while and then I laughed so hard thinking about all of the fun times we had together. It's hard to believe that 32 years had passed since we first met.
One of my fondest memories was when he told me about meeting you and how you had changed his life.
He was one-of-a-kind, and I will forever remember what a truly good person he was ~ he made me a better person for knowing him.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Nuch

Barbara and Family - I am so very sorry for your loss. I was out of town and could not attend the service. I have such good memories of Tom during our time at Alcoa.... in the Commercial Group....on the AB account, etc. He always had time to answer questions, to reassure, to help with a problem. He was the ultimate diplomat, gentleman and peacemaker. He will be greatly missed!

Tom was the mayor of Marion Street. We would all gather after school, sorting ourselves into teams, game after game. Tom was always gentle, even tempered, pragmatic, ridiculously athletic, acting as the great mediator, but able to laugh at the crazy antics of friends at play. He carried these qualities throughout his life, touching all of us along the way. I feel lucky to have known him. A special person whose life was cut too short...a sobering reality for all. My deepest condolences to his fine family and many friends. Love and ditto from my brothers Rob and Mike Sloan.

Barbara, Jack and Kathy - Cole, Crews, Olivia, Camille and I are very sorry for your loss. "Wilki" has been a great cousin and tremendous friend & mentor to me for many years. I simply don't have enough space herein to share all the many wonderful stories. His love of God, Family, Friends, Coors and PSU was always apparent. All my best during this difficult time. Love, "The Couch Potato" as "Wilki" referred to me.

Dear Kathy, Jack, Barbara and John,
The entire Schoenberg family was so sorry to hear of Tom's passing, he was such a terrific guy. I fondly recall all of our Farnum Street sporting contests that had to be relocated down the block so your dad Big Jack could get his sleep. Tommy as I knew him was such a fierce competitor, I think he got that from the great influence of his big brother Jack. Our prayers are with all of you.

Bless you Barabara for being the special one who only could bring eternal love to our friend Tom.
Jack and Kathleen, Tom was so proud to be your brother. He looked up to the both of you.
Katharine, Alison, Kyle and Ian- you were quite young when Tom and I were roommates. He loved and adored you as his own. He'd share with me your pictures and your exploits that bring richness to our lives as only children can.
You are all so special to Tom and my condolences go out to you.
As for me, it still hasn't sunk in that the friend who I could call anytime, any place is no longer with us to take the call . He made everyone feel important and special. He taught me a great deal about entering the corporate world, treating people with respect and life in general. He was truly special and I miss him.

Dear Barbara, Jack and Kathy, as Jack and Kathy know, I lived across the street from the Wilkinson's. What a great family. I was four years younger than Tom, but had many fond memories from his run in the little league playoffs to me sneaking out of school early when I was in eighth grade in 1976 to catch a ride with Mr. Wilkinson to watch Tommy at the Nassau Coliseum in the semi finals of the Nassau County basketball playoffs. Lynbrook lost that game, but Tommy did not disappoint scoring 23 points in the fourth quarter alone to almost bring his team back. All my condolences to a great man and a great family.

Barbara and family,
I was one of the people who was fortunate enough to know Tommy from kindergarden through high school and beyond. I have many memories of Tommy, all fond ones. Playing basketball, ping pong at Rich's house, and watching Tommy hit the 1st 3 pointer of the game at the top of the key. My best wishes to you and the family

To my teammate & friend you have set the bar by which all players in the Lynbrook, East Rockaway area get measured. During the past 26 years I have spoken of you often to my teams. If there is a court in heaven, call winners.... In the meantime look over us all.

All of us here in New York will miss him so much.
