CLEARWATER, Fla. - John Robert Smith, 65, of Clearwater, Florida, and formerly of Kendallville, Indiana, passed away on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025.
John was born on May 7, 1960, to Robert Claude Smith and Mary Esther (Shew) Smith.
John graduated from East Noble High School in 1978.
He worked in local machine shops early in his career. He then became a machine tool teacher for "Four County Vocational Co-op", now named "Impact Institute" in Kendallville. He retired and moved to Florida where he worked for B&R Sales, Machine Shop in Clearwater, Florida.
John was an avid Cubs and Bears fan and he loved fishing.
His parents preceded him in death.
Survivors are two sisters, Deborah (Thomas) Ryan, of Kendallville and Joni (George Edwin) Bruce, of Largo, Florida; two nieces, Tara Zeller and Jessica (Kyle) Tiso; a nephew, Travis Ryan; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
Private services will be held in Florida.
Burial will be at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
Hubbell Funeral Home in Florida, and Young Family Funeral Home in Kendallville are in charge of arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to PBS or Humane Society of Noble County Inc.
