He was born on May 2, 1950, the son of Elmer and Mary (Maystead) Meyer in Holstein, Iowa. On December 1, 2000 he married his best friend of seventeen years, Ruth Proeschel.
Keith will always be remembered as a man who dedicated his life to serving others and his countless acts of kindness will never be forgotten.
He graduated from Lakeland High School, Lagrange, in 1968 and was a member of the Ligonier United Methodist Church and the Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club for over 20 years. While serving as a Lion, he was recognized with several major awards because of his service.
He was also an avid fan of IU basketball and "Bobby Knight" was his middle name. Keith owned and operated Keith Meyer Cattle Fitting for many years.
He was very well known, loved and respected for his work in the Holstein industry and was recently named an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Indiana Holstein Association. More than anything, Keith will be remembered for his hearty laugh and never-ending smile.
Keith is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth P. Meyer of Cromwell; three sisters, Darlene (Jim) Ruden of Centerville, Michigan, Debra (Roger) Staples of Mendon, Michigan, and Denise (Jim) Snyder of Churubusco; Ruth's siblings, Paula Murray of Eaton, Ohio, Linda (Arnie) Johnson of Lakeland, Florida, Jim (Paula) Proeschel of Camden, Ohio, John (Diane) Proeschel of Camden, Ohio, Joe (Peggy) Proeschel of Liberty, Andrew (Susan) Proeschel of Eaton, Ohio, and Charles Simms of Oak Grove, Kentucky; several well loved nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; along with countless friends and fellow Lions.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Keith's honor at noon at Ligonier United Methodist Church, 466 Townline Road, Ligonier, on Saturday, January 26. Pastor Jean Ness will officiate. Following the service there will be a luncheon where friends and family will be invited to share their fond memories of Keith. Family and friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church.
A cremation committal will take place at Legacy Cremation & Remembrance Center in Ligonier. Keith's earthly remains will then be laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery in Gratis, Ohio, in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Cromwell-Kimmell Lions Club.

So sorry, Mrs. Meyer and Keith's family, for your loss. What an amazing and heartwarming story about Keith's life! I graduated with Keith, was not close to him but remember him as a kind, unassuming guy from whom I never heard an unkind word. May Keith rest in peace.
