ROME CITY - Pastor Steven Allen Herendeen, 73, of Rome City, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025, at his residence.
He was born on July 14, 1952, in Garrett, Indiana, to Lawrence E. and Mary (Englert) Herendeen.
On June 6, 1970, in Rome City, he married Marjorie E. "Margie" Heltzel.
Steve retired from NoSag in Kendallville. He was also a bus driver with Lakeland School Corporation and a Pastor at Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Rome City.
He was a train enthusiast and enjoyed anything to do with trains of any type. Steve loved spending time with his family and his church family.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marjorie Herendeen, of Rome City; three daughters, Amanda (Chad) Randol, of Woodruff, Melinda (Drew) Williams, of LaGrange and Sarah (Larry) DeCamp, of South Milford; two sons, Steven (Mary) Herendeen II, of Fort Wayne and Matt Herendeen, of Kendallville; 13 grandchildren, Krisalyn, Abrielle, Dustan, Drew, Marlena, James, Ashley, Brooklynn, Joseph, Maecee, Rodney Jr., Cory and Colette; 15 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; two sisters, Deanna (Rondal) Prater, of Wawaka and Lori (Rick) Williams, of Rome City; and two brothers, Dave (Carolyn) Herendeen, of Rome City and Gail (Linda) Herendeen, of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Tyler Owens; and two brothers, Tom Herendeen and Warren Herendeen.
Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 8, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Vineyard Christian Fellowship, 702 Kelly Street Ext., Rome City.
Celebration of Life services will also be on Friday, beginning at 1 p.m., at the church, with Pastor Josh Miller officiating.
Burial will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Casketbearers will be Matt Herendeen, Larry DeCamp, Chad Randol, Drew Herendeen, Dustan Herendeen, Drew Williams, Trycen Smith, James Marti, Rodney Owens Jr., and Rick Williams.
Preferred memorials may be made to Vineyard Christian Fellowship.
