HUDSON - Wayne Allen Schurr, 86, of Hudson, died Friday, March 29, 2024, at Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation in Angola.
He was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Garrett to Paul and Ruby (Tuttle) Schurr.
He graduated from Hillsdale College in Michigan with a bachelor's degree in education.
He began an eight-season professional baseball career in 1959, when he signed with the San Francisco Giants. In 1961, he pitched a no-hitter in the Texas League and in 1963, he was drafted by the Chicago Cubs. He retired from baseball after the 1966 minor-league season.
In 1997, he married Judith Cooper.
Mr. Schurr had worked at Magnavox in Fort Wayne. He retired after 30 years.
Along with his love for baseball, he also enjoyed gardening, cooking, golfing, and fishing, especially ice fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Cooper Schurr of Hudson; a son and daughter-in-law, Kelly Schurr and Marlene Friend-Schurr, also of Hudson; and three step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Ann Marie (Foor) Schurr, in 1995.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson-Ashley Chapel, 612 N. Main St., Hudson with his brother-in-law, Ed Cooper officiating.
Burial will follow in Wright Cemetery near Stroh.
Visitation will also be on Tuesday, beginning at noon until the time of the funeral service, all at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer's Association.
